My LO does this every night. He's only just four months so was not thinking of sleep training so soon but he seems to cry for a good half an hour in the evening regardless of what we do- whether we rock him/feed him/shush or pat and in fact seems to calm down quicker when we leave him alone. I'm hoping he will grow out of it because it's got to the point where I'm dreading bed time.

@Smurfette: same- she always fusses a bit as she is settling herself, anywhere from a couple minutes to half an hour. It's pretty rare that it goes to full crying now, but that is only because we sleep trained. Before that she would just scream.

Every once in a while (less than once a week) it does escalate to crying and getting really upset so I usually abandon that nap.

N fusses before every nap. Sometimes it escalates and then I know the nap's not happening. I can never tell beforehand though! How do you figure it out?
He's pretty good about going down quietly at night.

If/Does your LO fuss before settling down for a nap/sleep? If so, how long does it take, and did you sleep-train?

I don't sleep-train, but I have been working on nap-habits and routine for months now. We've had our ups & downs with teething and milestones interfering. But for the most part now, I can tell when I can put her down for a nap with minimal fussing. She can be an escalator when upset/crying, so I don't do CIO. But I can let her "fuss" about in the crib and recently she's pretty consistent with falling asleep after 15-20 min. (But I still nurse before naps). If she is not asleep within 20 min, usually the fussing turns into full-force crying and I'll never get her down for that nap. I'm hoping eventually, the fussing time will be shorter and nursing won't be necessary. LO is 9.5 mo.

Interested in others' experience with something similar?
