My gallbladder functioning went to hell when I was pregnant, starting around 24weeks I suddenly had very very severe pains in my upper torso, slightly to my right side. The pain was unreal. My ob was the one who figured out gallbladder was the issue, sent me to a specialist to confirm. The specialist did confirm it (apparently by gallbladder was full of sludge), and said that it can definitely be caused by pregnancy. Because i was second trimester, they didn't wAnt to remove it unless absolutely necessary, so the put me on a fat free diet and gave me painkillers. The fat free diet worked, I was almost completely pain free in under 24 hours, and only ended up using the pain meds once when I read a label incorrectly and at something with more fats than I thought in it. Extremely low fat is tough to do (I had to stay under about 6grams a day to stay pain free) but it was worth it to not have to have surgery. Once LO was out, the plan was to do surgery at about 4 weeks pp if symptoms continued. Fortunately, As soon as I delivered, my gallbladder started functioning perfectly again.

I would definitely check with your OB, good luck!

Sounds like what I had. My stones were getting into my pancreas. Instant relief when I had my gallbladder out!

I went to the er when mine was bad, but it was after I had M, so I didn't feel the need to run if past my OB.

@mrbee: Now where's the fun in that? :silly: kidding aside, I don't eat a very high fat diet. Maybe more spicy than it should be but not very fatty. I'm trying to focus on more veg and less acidic/spicy/fatty items to help whatever's going on though.

@kjpugs: My dad and a friend both had very painful gallbladder/gallstone issues, and were able to eliminate the issue by radically reducing their fat intake and increasing their fiber intake!

@MaryM: that's my plan. I tried to get in with them yesterday but they didn't have an opening til 4 and my PCP had one at 10. I was hoping the OB on call would work with us at the hospital but I guess because it wasn't baby related they just sent in the normal hospital people. I have an appointment Friday but if I have an attack before then I will try to get in sooner.

Instead of your PCP, could you maybe ask your OB about it? Let them know your concerns?

Maybe realizing how common gallbladder issues are in pregnancy they might be more willing to take a look?

@MaryM: yes, it is the center area of what I assume is my stomach/ top of my abdomen maybe? It's a little hard to pinpoint what/where since everything is so shifted when so pregnant! But the pain is in a constant place.

Where is the pain in your body? Is it always in the same place?

If you had gallbladder / gallstone problems (either during pregnancy or not) what were your symptoms, and how did you get diagnosed?

Three times now I've had seemingly random days where I woke up early with diarrhea and extreme stomach pain. Two of the days I vomited. The stomach pain is cramping/stabbing. Yesterday's episode was so bad that I went to my doctor (PCP) who said "meh probably a bug" and gave me paperwork to get a stool sample and bloodwork. I ended up being in so much pain I went to the hospital instead where they basically said the same ("gastroenteritis?") And told me it was not a gallbladder issue. The only testing done was a urinalysis and a finger prick for blood glucose.

After talking to a few ladies on here I'm not convinced that's the case. I am literally living in fear of having another attack- the stomach pain was worse than 70% of my labor. I'm 36+3 right now which makes it even harder to deal with that kind of stuff!

Advice about symptoms/testing is welcome. I plan to discuss in detail with my OB on Friday at my appointment.
