Gas with cast iron grates are quite easy to clean. You can put the grates in the dishwasher as long as you let them dry.

No doubt about it...gas! I always grew up with gas (which is really pretty easy to clean because you just lift the burners up) and right now we're in an apartment with electric. I hate it! It doesn't cook like a gas stovetop does.

I've had both, I definitely prefer cooking on gas! It is sometimes a PITA but its also annoying to scrub off baked on gunk on glass tops.

OMG, electric is not easy to clean. I mean it sort of is because it's just flat, but the damn glass shows every.little.spot and sometimes it just BURNS onto there and is a pain to get out. I have to clean my glass top stove like 2-3 x a week for it to look good. And I hate how you cant control the heat instantaneously.. after you turn it down it takes a while to cool off. GAS STOVE ALL THE WAY! We dont have a gas option for my house, and that is definitely one thing I would have looked for an not compromised if I knew I'd hate it so much. We'll be looking into an outside propane tanks so I can get a gas stove in the future.

I'm a fan of gas ranges. Cooking is so much faster and powerful. However, like you I love the ease of cleaning of my glass stove top. Quick wipe down with a clorox wipe and ta da! All done!!

I wish I had gas! Major con of my house. Electric is slower to heat, is uneven, etc. It is slightly easier to clean, but if the stuff gets baked on, it has to be scraped off with a razor. Not easy either!

Gas hands down. Electric is not that easy to clean. My stovetop gets burns that are impossible to get off. I would much rather cook with gas.

Gas, I have a smooth top electric and I despise it. The temperature control on those things is garbage, and they actually aren't that easy to clean. Also, gas cooks 100 times better. We are replacing ours with gas as soon as I am done maternity leave.

I like gas stoves, that's what we have. I enjoy cooking on a gas stove way more. It's easier to regulate temperature, and once you turn a gas stovetop off, it's off --no more heat. Electric stove burners take awhile to cool off.

@chopsuey119: I feel like with gas you can more easily regulate the heat? At least in our current apartment, the burners are either blazing red hot or just barely warm, there isn't a good middle ground.

ETA: I also like gas for things like....roasting peppers, toasting marshmallows, heating tortillas, etc. These are things that cannot be done with electric, or can be done but with the broiler which is a PITA.

I like how gas ranges look. They're so pretty!
But.
I like how easy electric is to clean.

Torn between a pretty gas range that's a PITA to clean or a not as pretty electric that's so easy.
(not the one we'd get.. but wanted to add a visual!)
