We just flew last week and traveled with a bag that my SIL lent us. It also was nice as we waited until we got to our destination to buy diapers and threw the leftovers in the bag on the way home. My brother said he used to pack the car seat bag full of tons of stuff when they traveled.

Thanks everyone! I think I might end up going with the big red bag.

We borrowed a backpack bag from friends and it worked well. I wouldn't send it without something: trash bag at the very very least.

We also used the Big Red Bag! It was so cheap and worked great. It has a handle and was easy to carry around. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

We used a car seat travel bag. Those seats are expensive and a pain to wash. Didn't want to risk having it come out covered in dirt.

We used the Big Red Bag (that's what it's called, LOL) from Amazon, it's like $8 or something? Worked fine but got ripped so it was a one-time use thing!

We used the fancy thing called a black trash bag! Worked just fine!

I've done both, I prefer to have the seat in a bag to hold all the straps in place and keep it clean. It also protects the seat in case there is rain, so I would for sure get a bag or at least a big, clear trash bag.

We are traveling tomorrow and I got bags for both car seats. To me, the risk of the car seat getting damaged is too great to not buy a 20$ bag for a bucket seat. Our convertible bag was more, but super durable.

We used this backpack bag (sorry, don't know how to shorten the link). We have never gate checked but it has been so great for checking the seats that we bought a second one. We use it for both the convertible and the infant seat with base.

For those who have travelled with a car seat, did you buy a travel bag to put it in or did you just bring it "naked" straight to the gate? Trying to decide if a travel bag is necessary. If so did you buy one of those fancy ones with wheels or just a simple one to keep it covered? Clueless over here... :)
