@Sammyfab: Thank you! I am sure we'll get it...Even though DH is not impressed with how much all these UBV accessories cost:) He thought after we forked out the initial dough that we were done and he is baffled at how it just keeps on going and going! I had to order extra bassinet mattress covers yesterday bc another bee told me her LO had peed through his diaper onto the bassinet, and DH just shakes his head about UBV madness:)

@plantains: Its really not that bad...The first time I had LO in the baby k'tan (she was 6 weeks)...the uppababy you have to take the wheels off to get it to fit (which is kind of a pain) but it still wasn't that bad. The second time I left her in her carseat...if you aren't taking your carseat with you, I highly recommend getting a carrier like a baby bjorn or ergo!

The only reason I didn't check my stroller at baggage claim and take LO through the airport in a carrier is because our airport is massive (ATL) and I am super reliant on the storage space under my stroller!!

@stiffaknee: hmmm, maybe I should get a bag. I'm just nervous about wangling the stroller into the bag on my own with a screaming baby on one arm and diaper bag on the other.

I've gate checked a Bugaboo Chameleon, a BOB (single), a Uppa Baby Vista, a Snap n Go & Graco Snugride, a Sit n Stroll, a Mountain Buggy Duet (double stroller) and two umbrellas (Maclaren Quest & Uppa Baby G-Luxe)... Not all at the same time, of course (but a few times, two were gate checked at the same time since I have two kids)! Never had a problem... Never had any noticeable damage from traveling with these strollers either.

I think airlines are getting stricter as big, luxury strollers are more popular than ever before... That explains why they *suggest* umbrella strollers. But you should be fine with a B-Agile! It's an average sized stroller. i travel a lot; I wouldn't worry.

I've gate checked my uppababy vista and carseat twice (together) and never had an issue. I'm sure they would like for you to check an umbrella stroller (because its lighter) but not all babies can travel in them, so I wouldnt bend over backwards to get something different than what you already have.

We gate checked our City Mini lots of times with no problem (and I saw plenty of people checking doubles that are much bigger). That said, definitely get a cover for it because they are not gentle with the strollers.

This the umbrella stroller we have, again, I think it's only available in Australia, and with our rather steep prices you wouldn't want to buy here anyway, but it just gives you an idea.

I have no actual experience with this, BUT, since your LO is so young, you could also get a cheap snap and go stroller base and just use that with the carseat. It depends how much you will be walking around, but if you are traveling somewhere you will just be in and our of the car most of the time while there, a snap and go base would be cheaper than the canvas bag anyway. But if you are going somewhere like NYC, or a big city where you will be doing tons of walking, I think you would want your nicer stroller.

ETA: And still check the carseat and stroller base of course.

There are umbrella strollers for infants out there - we bought one for DD when she was three weeks old as it's easier to maneuver around crowded areas. Just look for one that reclines all the way back to a near flat position (ours reclines to 5 positions) and has the five point harness and it will be fine for an infant. We put an insert into it and that kept LO snug and secure.

We'll be traveling at Christmas when LO is 5 months and we're taking our umbrella stroller specifically because we don't want our big one damaged and it is easier to transport.

I can't help you out with brands as ours is an Aussie brand but I'm sure they must have them in the States!

@PrincessBaby: our stroller wasn't damaged in any way thankfully! But the bag is just thick canvas so if they were super rough with the stroller it wouldn't necessarily be protected, KWIM? I think it's a worthy investment for $80-90 to know that any damages would be covered by uppababy though! :)

Yes another worry was that my stroller would get damaged so I was wondering if I should buy a cheap umbrella stroller for travel. On the other hand, LO is too small for all of those cheap ones...

I've gate checked our uppababy vista (I think they're around the same size or the UBV is a bit bigger) with no problems! We did buy the travel bag for it as I heard they're pretty rough with strollers and any damages are covered when we use the bag. Not sure if britax has something similar.

I gate checked my Britax B-Ready a bunch of times. I didn't even know about size limits!!! The one thing I can say is that if there is anything on it that comes off (like cup holder etc) take it off, because it will come off and you will lose it.

I also gate checked my infant carrier at the same time, so I wouldn't worry. Don't worry about an umbrella stroller, use the Britax. :)

I don't have personal experience w/this yet, but BFF just came back from a trip and told me she checked her carseat at the ticket counter (free) and checked her stroller (a big BOB) at the gate (also free). I think they wouldn't be too picky about it, some people have double strollers, think of that! And you can always tell them that she is too small for an umbrella stroller if they hassle you.

I've gate checked my city mini many times and it's quite bigger than an umbrella stroller folded. I've actually seen people gate check a Bob revolution or bugaboo chameleon. Maybe it depends on the airline?

I have a Britax B-Agile and carrier system for my baby and we will be flying over the holidays. I was reading the airline regulations about traveling with strollers and many of them have size regulations for gate checking them and suggest that you bring an umbrella stroller. Now I'm concerned about my B-agile... it's not an umbrella and the folded footprint is kind of big!

LO will be 3.5 months when we travel and it looks like most umbrella strollers aren't meant for babies under 6 months.

Do you typically gate check your stroller and carseat?
Has anyone gate checked the Britax B-agile?
Should I be buying an umbrella stroller for traveling?
