@winniebee: Phew! Thanks for the reassurance! With my first delivery, it was a C-section, and I'm planning on having another C-section for this baby, if all goes well. Not sure if I would still get IV antibiotics if I still tested positive closer to delivery. I was going nuts on the internet reading about all the stuff related to miscarriage and pre-term labor. Glad to hear about the positive outcomes. Thanks, again!

@MrsMangoMochi: gbs is super common!! I did take the antibiotic at 8 wks but still tested positive for it at 36 or so weeks. So it's definitely not a one or the other situation though I'm sure some women can clear it at 8 wks and never need the antibiotics during labor. I had to have iv of antibiotics for I think 3-4 hours before delivering. If was a total non issue Bc I wanted a hospital birth with an epidural anyways. Try not to worry about it it's really not a big deal (though I thought it was at the time!)

@winniebee: Hi. I know this is an old post, but I was searching topics on GBS. I'm 8 weeks and 3 days along today and got a call back from the doc's office saying that my urine sample tested positive for GBS and the doc prescribed Amoxicillin. She advised me that I could take it now or wait until the second trimester. I wanted to know how everything turned out for you, if you don't mind sharing. I'm freaking out a little and would like some reassurance that it would be fine to take it now. I am, also, somewhat relieved that GBS is more common than I thought. I didn't have GBS with my first, so this is new to me. Thanks for your help!

My midwife gave me options, other than antibiotics - in the case that I had it, which I didn't.

You can do a yogurt douche once you're in labor, or choose to do antibiotics ONLY if risk factors present themselves (which is what I would have done).

@Mrs.M57: No big--they'll either have a hep-lock or IV in for other things anyway. :)

You just get IV antibiotics during labor. NBD.
I haven't gotten my results back, but it doesn't matter to me either way.

I tested positive for it at 36 weeks. The doctor said its no big deal and I'll just receive an antibiotic for it during labor.

I tested positive for it at 8 weeks (they weren't sure if it was actual Group B or whether I had contaminated my urine sample). They treated with amoxicillin then and it cleared. I think I'll be tested again @ 36 weeks, not sure if I will have to have antibiotics during delivery yet. You get IV anyways during delivery and I'm told they will just give me antibiotics that way if needed.

Nope. But I hear it's not a huge deal, they just give you some meds when delivering.

my group b test came back negative but from what my doctor told me its not a big deal if it was positive, it just means that once you go into labor they have to give you antibiotics through an IV
