@autumnlove, but it was just a minute, though! And i think a lot of that is just shock. If you're upset about it a month, two months, three months later, that's not ok!

We were Team Green both times, and I have to admit that I was nervous about potentially having a boy the second time around. DD was such a good baby, and I figured I already "knew" what it was like to have a girl, so having a boy seemed scarier. I was worried for absolutely no reason. :) Boys are incredible and wonderful and every bit as good as girls... and DS did wear some of DD's hand-me-downs when he was little. :)

@PrincessBaby: if you don't have another girl I will totally buy all your hand me downs ;)

Yup, I was there. I wanted a girl SO BADLY that when I was told it was a boy I was upset and it took a few weeks to accept it. Now my son is 8 months old and I could totally see myself being content with a house of boys lol. But I do still want a girl someday :) here's hoping.

I think it's totally normal to feel guilt. DH and I BOTH cried when we found out our LO is a boy - I wanted a girl so badly, and I think DH was more upset for me than anything else. You'll get over it, either way! :)

@blackbird: @MamaMoose: @PrincessBaby: I will admit that I cried when I found out LO was a girl because I was so convinced it was a boy. DH and the ultrasound tech looked at me like I was insane. It was only for a minute and I got excited about a girl before we left the ultrasound place! :-)

We were team green both pregnancies. With our first I really made an effort not to get my expectations for one gender too high, although I deep down thought I was having a boy. When DD was born I was thrilled and never looked back. With my second, I preferred a girl for all the same reasons you said; we already had girl things, the kids have to share a room so it would be easier, etc. When DS was born I think I went into a mild state of shock because I had wrapped my mind around a second girl so much. I will honestly say that it took a couple weeks but I am as much in love with him as I am with my daughter and feel truly blessed.

I only ever saw myself having one child, and I always envisioned that to be a girl.
Surprise! That wasn't what was in store for me.
I'm really really excited to be having this little boy, but I hope that #2 will be a girl!

I am kind of relieved to have a girl because I know what to 'expect' :) And I am really excited about all the super cute girly stuff!

As long as you don't get all depressed and cry and get super sad about it, it's normal. That, I think, is an unhealthy response. I know for the second baby, I will be hoping we have a boy :)

I'm currently pregnant with our first. And I really will be thrilled either way. But I know for a fact that next time I will REALLY REALLY want the opposite gender of what we get the first time around. I think it's natural to have a preference. As long as you don't become overly disappointed, or allow it affect the way you view the child, then don't feel guilty! I will say though I've never understood people who have a really intense negative reaction to gender like crying or something. You still have a healthy child even if it's not exactly what you imagined and that is always something to be greatful for!

@autumnlove: Do it earlier! It's so worth it!

I think gender guilt is normal! I DEFINITELY wanted a boy with this pregnancy- and it took a few days to get over the fact that we're having a girl, but now I cannot for the life of me imagine her being anything other than a girl!

And as much as I wanted a boy, I also want another girl so that H can have a sister and we can re-use stuff! I have a feeling this is going to turn into a 3-kid situation just to see if we can get one more of each!

I think that's only natural.

Next time we have a baby I'm very undecided about what I want. Id love another girl because I love all things girly and I think it would be nice for lo to have a sister. But dh really wants a boy and I want him to get what he wants and it would be nice to have one of each. So I can honestly say I don't care.

Last time I couldnt say that. I had to convince myself id be happy if I had a boy and make myself get excited about boy things just in case.... but we had a girl.

Sometimes I feel bad for wanting another girl for practical reasons...I know what to expect and we can reuse all of our LO's clothes!

Of course, I would be thrilled with a boy too...I can't wait to find out the gender!
