exactly what cupcakemama said, don't find out to make it easier for others!

We didn't find out and got a lot of stuff we needed but it wasn't the crib kinda thing. We had bought the big stuff already.

I don't think you should find out the sex of the baby just to make shopping for your shower easier for other people. Is that really what friends and family are suggesting? We were team green, where I live it's the most common option. People managed fine for the shower, we received gender neutral stuff.

Of the showers I have been to, it seems like people will buy an item on the registry and then buy something fun like a pink romper or a blue pants outfit that weren't on the registry. I would suggest not registering for clothes, except for some necessity onesies, because people are going to buy them for you anyways and you really want the bigger stuff right now.

We didn't find out the gender of our first (son). I felt that people got us what we needed from our registry and plenty of things that were not on our registry where gender didn't apply like toys, books, etc. And we still got plenty of clothes. I think the decision is ultimately yours. Gifts from friends and family are great but ultimately you need very little and if you get the "wrong" things you can always return them to get what you need. I only just realized how much stuff we had as I was sorting through it all for our 2nd son and gave much of it to goodwill!!

Interestingly enough, my friend and her hubs found out the gender but kept it to themselves! They told everyone that they were not revealing the gender so they got all gender-neutral coloured items even though they knew they were having a boy! I think people like knowing what you're having so they can buy specific or personalized items.

I was just talking to a friend about this. We are planning to find out but were planning to surprise people at the shower because I don't want gender specific clothes. My friend was team green and she said they ended up getting tons of blankets/hats from people that they didn't end up using. Now I'm thinking I'd rather tell people ahead of time and get pink/blue clothes than a bunch of stuff I won't use.

I think on the contrary, people almost have to get you necessities when you're team green (like we were)! If they think it's a girl, you'll probably get a bunch of cute but useless frilly things. We got lots of bath towels, rags, yellow and green and white outfits, blankets, etc. A few people went out on a limb and got us clearly boy or girl things, but that was pretty weird of them.

We're team green, and we got a wide range of necessities, clothes and tons of blankets for our shower. After it was all said and done, I just need a few things to top up our supply and we're good to go.

Its still possible to shop gender neutral, so I dont think it will be too hard for people to buy you things

Well, if you put things on a registry, people generally buy from that list, so...you should get what you requested.

If you don't get what you asked for, you buy it yourself, right?

eta: we didn't know the sex until birth and we didn't have a shower, just so you know where I'm coming from.

@Bao: I'm in the same boat as you. But in my mind, I would rather get the necessities then clothes, and I feel like when the gender is known we will get more clothes and less important stuff. I know buying clothes is fun, I'm guilty too, but I would prefer diapers, books, bathing needs, ect!

We knew we were having a girl. We got lots of pink, but I'm very girly and pink is my favorite color so everyone knew that's what I wanted. But I also got all the big things and things I needed.

Dh and I are tossing around the idea of finding out the sex of our baby or keeping it a surprise. We don't want to because we are not a plan of all pink or all blue. We mentioned to some friends/family we may not find out and they thought it was crazy and said it would be too hard for people to buy us anything for our shower.

So, I am curious, to those of you who did not find out the sex, did you get things you needed at your shower? If you DID find out the sex did you get a lot of pink or a lot of blue and not much of what you actually needed?

Thanks in advance everyone :)
