@Pinkelephant If someone HAS to get something, I will be totally gracious about it and make sure the baby wears the outfit or plays with the toy or whatever. It would be so sweet of someone to think of the baby.

@caterw: I love @AprilFool: 's idea. To be honest, if I were invited, I'd probably get you SOMETHING no matter what your instructions were about presents if I knew it was coming. I guess you can always have one of your louder/pushier friends (I don't mean that in an unkind way, everyone has a friend who is more vocal/opinionated, right?!) spread the word that you really feel awkward/guilty about gifts and just want to celebrate with everyone.

@Aprilfool I think that's a really fun idea. My friends all know how much I love throwing random parties so they probably won't suspect.

I love the idea of this. Agree with Pregnantbee as far as request for no gifts and how you can word that on an invite. Or a full blown surprise too of them not knowing its a gender reveal until they get there.

We had a gender reveal for Lo2 too. It was at our house and I provided dinner. My friend wanted to do the gender reveal part so she did the decorations and a simple game of guess the gender. We gave her the envelope so she actually set up the reveal. Another friend wanted to help so she made the desserts. No invites just a casual email to be invited for dinner. The email was valso worded intentionally like it was an invite to come hang out for dinner instead of a gender reveal so no one brought gifts

@Raindrop Nah I'll just get them myself. I don't want anyone thinking that they NEED to bring them so I would rather just not bother. Plus I am really good at Target couponing so it will be pretty cheap to stock up.

I think it sounds fun!

When I am trying to avoid gifts, I have:
-explicitly said, "No gifts please." trying to keep it short and to the point.
-said things like "no need to bring anything but hugs."
-Suggested people bring food to share if they would like to bring something, but they weren't expected to bring anything but themselves. (But our circle of friends often has potluck style parties, so this isn't out of the ordinary.)

Sounds fun! You can write something like "we already have everything we need, so your presence is gift enough." My neighbor/friend is throwing a sprinkle for me for my 2nd, but I also really don't want anything except to celebrate the baby.

No diapers or wipes?! Even my friends that say they have everything still have sprinkle for diapers and wipes. :) I suspect they want other gifts too! Haha.

I think this sounds lovely! I love that there is no pressure for gifts.

I am 12 weeks along with #2 and I have been thinking I might like to throw a gender reveal party for my second baby. We will find out what we are having in June. I don't want to have a baby shower or a sprinkle because I already have what I need for the baby (and everyone has already gotten me a present for DD!). I really just want to celebrate our new baby as much as we celebrated our first but with no gifts- no gift cards, no diapers and wipes, no "book shower". I don't need anything at all!

I was thinking I would throw it myself and provide all food/ drinks/ decor. The party would be very simple and casual- brunchey food (ham biscuits, muffins, fruit, etc) and a mimosa bar at a local park that has a pavilion you can rent and a big splash pad for the kids.

Is this a totally weird party to have and is it OK to throw this myself? Also, how I would I let people know the only present I want is the gift of their company?
