This is really interesting! We didn't try for one or the other, but according to the Shettles method, we should have had a girl ... And we did!! It's a 50/50 chance, but reading about this swaying, there are points that definitely make sense!

For those who want to read more about this theory/hypothesis: http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/12340-understanding-trivers-willard-hypothesis.html

So for a girl sway, you need to make your body feel like you are going through "hard times". But it's all in balance, no so much of a hard time that you are neglecting your health.

So for me, my girl sway diet is:
white meats, low red meat, dairy (milk, cheese and yogurt, less salt, more water, sweets, spinach, salads, cucumbers, berries. Coupled with exercise 4 days a week. I may skip a breakfast/snack here or there.

@Little Misters Mom: I don't, I just know it's not available here anymore for FDA reasons. It happened a couple of years ago. I was bummed to find that out since it seemed to have pretty good results, but I guess it all worked out since I wouldn't have the snuggly baby boy I'm holding right now if we'd gone that route!

@wonderstruck: oh wow, I hadn't heard that. We know people who did it in the US (at least I thought they did it in Virginia) but that was a number of years ago. I don't have a gender preference either way so it's not something we'd consider but do you know why it wasn't approved?

@Little Misters Mom: Also requires you to have a medical procedure done in Mexico since it is no longer done in the US for not getting FDA approval. So I'd be careful about that.

Studies have shown diet can change ph and boy sperm does better in less acidic mucus and girl sperm does better in more acidic mucus. Additionally they've researched males diet and how the foods they eat effect their sperm. Gender dreaming has a loooottt of info. We just wanted to get pregnant, but we naturally eat a protein heavy boy friendly diet. Interesting stuff!

We know people who tried everything to get a boy and now have three girls. I think the only method with genuine science behind it is Microsort sperm sorting. It might be too extreme/expensive and it does require that you already have at least one child of the opposite gender but depending on the strength of your preference could be an option. http://www.microsort.com

I looked into this after my second daughter was born. We would like to try for a boy but i'm scared it will set me up for disappointment. Although I did most things for a boy with my first two pregnancies, no knowingly, and still got girls!

We tried EVERYTHING because I've always wanted a daughter. Supplements, diet changes, pretty much everything the site recommends. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that we went as far as paying for their customized plan on diet, supplements, timing, etc. Fortunately no one in real life knows about this since my two sons are awesome and I would never want them to know about any of that! :silly: So yeah, from personal experience I will say that you get what you get, and once they are here you wouldn't wish for them to be even a tiny bit different - they'll be your child and will be perfect

We tried Shettles and I tried to eat more berries, yogurt (acidic stuff I think) and no bananas or cereal. We did get a girl! So not sure if that helped.

I'm using this resource at the moment.

Of course it is all theory, but I find this particular theory to be more convincing than the Shettles theory.

http://ingender.com/

"Preconception Gender Diet
The boy diet / girl diet theory holds that altering your body's pH through diet may influence the polarity of the egg (if it has one), or make the vaginal environment more or less hospitable to sperm.
Diet high in potassium and sodium for a boy.
Diet high in calcium and magnesium for a girl."

And articles like this:
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/105013.php

- I'm mainly doing this, though ideally both of us would be on board if we really wanted to try for a hard sway. I'm mainly doing it for "fun" and "curiosity".

Sex is determined by chromosomes only. I don't see how a diet could have any affect on the sex. It is not genetically possible. As i'm sure it would be fun to try, there is no proven evidence to support its claim.
