My sister also told me to try cutting dairy since she noticed a huge difference when she did it for her son. I noticed a difference in about 3 days. At first i was skeptical and thought it was just a coincidence.. Or maybe i was in denial because i love dairy! But about two weeks later, i had a cheeseburger and totally forgot that im not supposed to eat cheese and noticed that night that she was grunting a lot again and spit up more than usual. I knew he probably had it because he's been spitting up a lot more after nursing and is pretty uncomfortable for an hour or so after eating, sometimes crying inconsolably for a few minutes until he spits up or burps. He's gaining weight well (over 12 lbs now!) so there's no concern there. If he starts pulling off while nursing and cries or refuses to eat altogether, we will put him on Zantac, per the pediatrician. He's hoping we can wait it out until his esophagus closes around 45 months because there are side effects like headache and tummy aches that we would like to avoid if possible. We put M on acid reflux medicine and she still spits up tons and tons. It doesn't help the spit up but it does help her pain of the acid reflux. I'm not sure if I would consider him a happy spitter. He's always eager to eat, but he fusses for a while after eating if I put him in his crib.<br /> @Ree723: My son spits up long after eating too! Just when I think he doesn't have anymore... ten minutes later, more comes out. I can't hold him forever. Laundry problem... sigh.<br /> For those who have dealt with a milk allergy, how long did it take you to figure it out? I've heard that dairy can stay in your system for up to two weeks. I was worried with my second baby cause she seemed to spit up way more than my first. She also seemed really really gassy since she was grunting a ton so i cut dairy from my diet and it actually helped with both the grunting and the spit up. She still spits up but not as much as before. If he was a happy spitter, it wouldn't have bothered me so much. She's 3.5 months and has always spit up a fair bit after every feed - almost always right after a feed and it's not uncommon for more spit ups to follow half hour later....an hour later....90 minutes later, etc. It never seems to bother her though so pretty sure it's not reflux!</p> <p>We have LO on a probiotic and that helped eliminate painful gas but hasn't had any impact on the spitting up. Around 4 months my baby started spitting up more. It correlated to when he got more active. Also his spit up sort of dribbles down his face. It's not projectile spit up. Sometimes my 6-month-old will spit up a little bit if I don't burp him. But it was nothing like my oldest when he was a baby. He would constantly spit up and it turned out to be dairy and soy protein allergies. It got better as he got older. The first few months was pretty bad. I want to say a couple of times it was projectile spit up. Yikes! Hope it's just reflux and not allergies. Having to deal with allergies kind of sucked. Her first little one had no problems so it was kinda a surprise that baby number two spit up so much. He will eat 4-6 ounces and it seems almost spits up half of that. They have him on some gas drops and keep him elevated but don't seem to notice a difference. She has even tried breastmilk and formula.
