we used the UP & UP too. (started at 5 months)
honestly, we just started with the cheapest and we thought if it wasn't working for her we'd try the next price up. She did great with the UP&UP.

I tried Kirkland, we asked the doctor first and they said it was fine. But it was really thick and made lo's constipation even worse.

If you compare all ingredients and find no differences then you are just paying for the name on the name brand. You have to do your research before using a store or generic brand but don't just pay for the name if you don't need to.
I've done this twice with my LO's and will do it with my third. Research is key.

I asked my ped and she was totally fine with it. A lot of times the store brands are made by the same company. You can compare ingredients and nutritional content to, but like @Honeybee said not all babies tolerate formula the same.

We did a newborn care class with our ped (I'm still preg) and he was adamantly opposed to store brand formula. He said that there is just not enough research to back how "comparable" they really are.

My baby is not formula fed, but those store brands are so comparable its definitely worth a try! I hear Wal-Mart, Sam's club or Costco also have good brands.

@MerryC: We had the same issues with the Kirkland brand! We ended up switching to Enfamil Soy, after that.

I think it's worth it to try it out, but not all babies tolerate formulas the same, so you may or may not be able to switch in the long-term.

@phdmommy: Oh, wow! And I thought our formula was expensive. Glad to hear you are having good luck w/ Wal-Mart brand.

We used to buy the organic Simelac at target for $30 for 23 oz. Ouch! I found that Walmart's brand "Parent's Choice" sales 23 oz container of ORGANIC formula for $15!! I ordered a 4 pack, and haven't looked back :) My gal is actually spitting up less since we switched her and it didn't seem to phase her otherwise. I'm def ok with saving money where we can.

We tried Kirkland, the Costco store brand, which is comparable to the Similac we'd been using (and looks very similar). At half the price it was worth trying, but made our kids spit up a ton. We decided to go back to the Similac since it'sour kids nutrition, and is only like 50 cents a bottle anyway.

So I went to Target today to stock up on formula for my LO. She's on Enfamil Premium for infants and a 2-pack (35 ounces total) costs $39.99. Then I saw their generic "Up & Up" brand, which says it's comparable to Enfamil. It was $22.00 for 40 ounces! Can't believe I never noticed this before, though to be fair, I don't usually make it to Target, living in the city and all. Typically I buy from neighborhood stores that only carry the name brands.

I went ahead and bought a container and figured we would try it out since the potential for saving lots of money is pretty big. Have any of you used this brand? I was so proud of myself, but I'll admit a teensy part of me felt guilty for going the cheap option for my baby. Please tell me I'm crazy (I'm sure that I am).
