So the saga continues......
I completely stopped BFing last week, and switched from the target formula that was constipating him, to Enfamil Premium.
Now he's not constipated, but seems super uncomfortable and gassy. Poop and farts are infrequent but when they come out its so forceful and he seems to look in pain.

So.

We bought the Kirkland brand. Going to give it a week. If he still looks uncomfortable will have to make a visit to the Ped.

I use Enfamil & BRU formula.
The BRU formula is comparable to enfamil and I'll do 50/50. Basically alternating days. My doc said this was ok because I brought in the BRU formula and he compare the vitamin %s and said that BRU is the exact same as Enfamil. I don't think I could move him 100% to store brands , ever, but I do 50/50.
The 27.99 container of enfamil = 16.99 BRU container and is almost always on sale for 9.99. Plus you can use BRU VIB points to save 10%.

@mrsmate: we went back to enfamil, but the infant instead of newborn. We'll see how I goes. SO wants to still try Costco/Kirkland, I don't.

@mrsmate: do you want to say I told you so?

I thought things were going great with the target formula....until I saw diapey today :( while I had him on the changing table, he strained so hard and a giant hard poop came out. I'm going to tell SO that I want to spend the extra $$$ for enfamil.

We used the Costco formula and had no problems with it. I switched him over cold turkey from the Enfamil samples we got from the hospital. I would go to Costco once a month and get a big box of diapers, wipes and 3 cans of formula and it would last me until my next trip.

I've actually heard great things about the Costco brand. My friend switched her son from enfamil to Costco without any issues.

I loved Costco's formula (I'd buy two containers at a time to save fuel), my costco is 40 minutes away! It can be a little foamy, I was given the advice of buying a Dr. Brown's formula pitcher and mixing it in that. I loved doing it that way, pre-made ready to go formula with no clumps and no foam, yes please :)

@mrsmate: just bought some....i hope he got daddys digestive system. Growing up in a 3rd world country gives you a strong stomach!

@sorrycharlie: haha. I never do walk there though. Its way too hot, so I drive.
Just bought 5 bags of chocolate!

@wheres_c: I can't help with the formula question, but just wanted to say I'm so jealous that you can walk to Target! That'd be so dangerous for me!

The Target formulas made my DD a little constipated. We ended up using Alimentum, which was covered by my insurance. But this is no knock on Target. Every baby is different, and what works for one baby may not work for another. Plenty of babies do very well on Target. Since it's convenient for you I'd try it first, and move onto others if it doesn't work.

@photojane: I did the price comparison and parents choice is a tiny bit more expensive than target actually.
I just read some reviews on parents choice, and it seems to have better reviews than costco.

I'm leaning towards target (unless I hear anything negative from the beez) since I can walk to target from my house.

We give S Enfamil Gentlease because it worked and we're afraid to switch, but my nephew took Walmart (Parents Choice, I think?) until they switched him to whole milk at 12 months. He had TERRIBLE reflux and it worked for them. I think they used the soy...? I was planning on using it too until we started the Gentlease and she took to it so well (of course, right? way more expensive!). Parents Choice is less expensive than Target, I believe.

LO is 3 months old and just finishing up the last of his enfamil newborn formula.
We talked to the pediatrician about switching to a store brand and she gave us the all clear.
So: The main contenders are Target and Costco.

Costco is cheaper, but the reviews say it can be foamy and cause constipation. Also costco is a little further away and has more reduced hours.

Target is a little more expensive but still similarly priced. Easy to get late at night. Cant find many reviews either good or bad.

Walmart is potentially another option.

Anyone here use store brand formula?
