My family is split - my Mom and brother have brown eyes and my Dad and I got the blue eyes. I know my husband and I have no chance of a brown eyed baby but I can't wait to see my brother and SIL's baby; they are due in December. She is half Asian with the looks of her father. Her Mom has blue eyes and blond hair. I'm secretly hoping they have a dark haired, light eyed baby. :)

@Killer B - if you and your DH both have light eyes, and your parents all have light eyes, you can only have light eyed kiddos (if my 10th grade biology knowledge is still correct)

There's this fun little website that will calculate your child's eye color odds based on you and your parents' eye colors: http://museum.thetech.org/ugenetics/eyeCalc/eyecalculator.html

@Killer B - while dark eyes are the dominant gene, it sounds like your child will most likely have light eyes like you and your husband, since all four of your parents have light eyes - neither of you would have the brown eye gene to pass on to your child. But I only have the basic understanding of genetics, so I'd love to know if this turns out not to be the case. :)

Hi Heather. ;o)
It is weird how genetics works. I'm bi-racial (Filipino/Caucasian) and I don't look a lick of Filipino...but my brother does. I also have green hazel eyes; my dad has blue eyes and my mom has brown. My husband is also half Filipino, so I can't wait for us to have kiddies of our own and see what traits they receive.

Genes are bananas. Both the hubs and I have light eyes, and all our parents have light eyes too, but I still wonder if we can have a child with brown eyes or not. Our LO has blue, but she's only 2 months old, so they can still change. I'm thinking they probably won't though, with blue and green eyed genes galore!

I'm not sure yet about the genes since my LO refuses to appear but we are really excited to see what he looks like. My husband and I are mixed ourselves so it will be a toss us. Our fathers are both very light complected with blond hair and blue eyes while our mothers are very dark olive toned with black hair and dark eyes. I am lighter than my husband but depending on the mixture of genes we could have a baby who is either way lighter or darker than we are.

My son is biracial (black, italian, puerto rican, german, native american) and he has blue eyes. My sons father nor myself have blue eyes, but my dad does. It's crazy how genes work.

Does your child have any features that do not look like yours or your SO?
