It was right for us (girl). My understanding is that there's approximately a 1/10,000 chance it's wrong, and that it's a slightly higher chance if it shows girl than if it shows boy. (Since if they find a Y chromosome, that's pretty definitive, but they might miss a Y and think it's a girl.) I definitely didn't worry about it being wrong.

I had the test done. My genetic counselor said to over the phone "I see a lot of Y chromosomes." We told everyone that it's very likely a boy and will be confirmed at 20 weeks. It was confirmed then and at birth.

Ok, just read the brochure again. It is cell-free. And It doesn't say anything about gender not being accurate due to xyz, only that not all chromosomal abnormalities may be detected due to xyz.

So I think we are safe to do a gender reveal tmw. Ahhh so excited to see how excited my family's going to be.!

@yellowbird: :girl: so excited!!! We have a boy and part of me wanted him to have a brother so I was hoping for boy and then girl for #3. I was since this one is a girl and I have such difficult pregnancies I might not want to try for a #3 and then DS would miss out on having that brotherhood companionship. Anyway I still couldn't stop smiling when I found out because I always wanted a girl.

@SweetiePie: my OB said the visibilT is the newest one which replaces the verifi in his office so I'm assuming it is cell free. I should've researched more but I just trusted him since this is my second pregnancy with him and he's so awesome!

@Ms. RV: yeah that was the other reason why I was a little bit hesitant to announce. We had the test done early at 10.5 wks and I also read that it was a bit less accuract when done early. My dr said it was fine after 10 wks - I forgot to ask him if the SCH would affect any results. But thanks @Bluebonnet: for your reassurance.

Mine was correct, which is awesome because I had three ultrasounds after the anantomy scan and they couldn't determine gender on any of those four. My MaterniT21 test was done late though, at 20 weeks I think. I think I read somewhere that having it done early was more prone to errors.

I know of one person it has been wrong for, but she had done Ivf and originally two embryos had implanted. Even at that, her doctors were shocked and said it was extremely rare to be wrong. I would think you are definitely ok to announce!

I didn't have it, but ive never heard of it being wrong, unlike the anatomy scan where everyone has a friend of a friend's cousins daughter who had the opposite see than they were expecting. I would say the results are as accurate as you are going to get until baby is born!

@iluvboba637: I had a subchorinic hemorrhage and my genetics gender blood test was correct. Talk to your doctor, but I thought the gender blood test was 99% accurate for singleton pregnancies.

@wrkbrk: definitely a singleton here. Just a bit nervous because I had some bleeding, most likely a subchorinic hemorrhage, and the brochure said somethin about the the placenta could affect the accuracy of the results. I'll read it more carefully and post tonight when I get home. I don't think it could be wrong either but I think I read here that someone's genetics test was wrong with the gender.

I'm not sure the blood test can be wrong with regards to sex - unless you had twins or two embryos implanted from IVF or something!

If you did cell free dna testing (verifi, materniT21, etc) it's like 98% accurate or something like that. I'd say it's safe to say the gender if you're comfortable with it.
We had Verifi and it was accurate. (But we also had PGD testing with our IVF so we also knew from that. The Verifi just...well, verified it :-) )

Did you get the genetics test done (materniT21, harmony, verify, visibiliT)? Was it right with the gender?

I got the visibiliT at my 10.5 wk appt and got the results yesterday. We are beyond thrilled and exploding at the seams to reveal the gender to our family. I'll be 12 wks on Monday and haven't even gotten the NT scan yet - so no other guesses at gender. Is it too early to do a gender reveal?

ETA: I just wanted to add that we did the genetics test for my sanity to know that baby is healthy, not for the sake of finding out the gender early. That was just an extra plus.
