@Bibliolove: We decided to wait until 5-6 months, because I could tell she just wasn't ready for it ... thankfully, the 4 month sleep regression is over. I still have to rock her to sleep, but she's doing better at staying asleep now. The first part of the night is hard, for sure. Best wishes to you!!!

@littlejoy: how is the sleep training going? I am right around 3.5 months for my LO and want to try some gentle sleep training soon. Right now he sleeps in his crib, but it's been harder to keep him asleep in the first part of the night. We do have a good routine.

The baby whisperer forums are great for this! The actual book is a little outdated in terms of breastfeeding schedule advice but the ladies who maintain the forums are helpful at troubleshooting settling and the FAQs on the forums actually cover how to handle pretty much everything. It's basically an approach where you settle the baby by patting him in the crib and then slowly remove yourself over time until LO can self settle.

@Mrs. Champagne: This baby won't keep a paci in her mouth. It kills me!! :)

@Pollywog: That's a great idea - wean the boob at bedtime slowly. Part of me thinks I shouldn't care about that piece just yet, since she's still waking 1-2 times a night to eat (and she falls asleep during those nursing sessions).

I didn't do any sleep training until LO was a toddler because I needed to get as many calories in him. When we finally started I nursed then unlatched him 99% asleep. I kept unlatching earlier and earlier until he would go down with no boob.

We didn't really follow a method. But I would nurse (actually - did a bottle of pumped milk before bed to get a longer stretch) and then swaddle etc so they were woken. Lied down with a soother and white noise and just kind of hung out beside them until they fell asleep with a gentle pat or replacing the soother.

It's been 4 years since we last did sleep training (and then, we didn't approach til 6 months). Our little one is nearing 4 months and we'd like suggestions on gentle methods. I'm ok with general fussing, but we won't do CIO. Was there a book or website that helped you?

Right now, we nurse to sleep and roomshare. We will still roomshare, but I'd like to take nursing to sleep out of the equation (in case this detail changes the book/resource you'd recommend).
