@Sugar.Biscuit: haha maybe? Chocolate, coffee and mushrooms are also supposed to be bad. I think it's best to find a list of foods that may not be recommended for GERD and then test them to see if they worsen symptoms for yourself. Not all foods are going to cause problems for everyone do you might get lucky with your sub :)

@Sugar.Biscuit: I've had GERD since I was a teenager with symptoms like you described. DS also has it...from our experience Zantac is not going to be enough to relieve the symptoms and if it's GERD you need a PPI like Prevacid or Prilosec (generic Lansoprazole or Omeprazole). Both you can get OTC now, so I would try one of them and see if your symptoms resolve.

Also some diet modifications may help as well. There are certain foods that aggravate acid reflux so you might want to try limiting your intake of those. You can still eat them, just in moderation ;).

Oooh, DH was just "diagnosed" with it a few weeks/months ago. We think his was brought on by stress (crazy work stuff and then we were closing on our house/moving into it, etc.) and poor diet (he travels 90% for work so it's usually a grab-n-go meal and then with closing/moving in we ate a looot of random stuff...).

The way he was initially describing it made me think he had an ulcer--stomach ache/pain, bloating, burning, like nooo appetite (or not wanting to eat due to pain). I was able to convince him to go to the doctor and she knew right away it was GERD. After we got over the sillyness of the name, it made a lot of sense. Again, stress, poor diet, he was eating late at night/right before bed, etc.

Anyway, I guess this really isn't answering your question at all. Hahah, sorry. I'll shoot DH a text and ask him what his symptoms were. Hope it gets better soon!!!

@Anagram: it is scary. I've been to the ER 4 times now over the last 3-4 years for chest pains & recently it has become very problematic. They had a cardiologist exam me this last time & everthing has come back normal this time. Not knowing is the worse part. I hope you get your answers soon! Btw I call and schedule, cancel, & reschedule DH's appointments all the time. Some places as for a release but DH always makes sure to do that when he fills out/ updates his papers every year.

@Sugar.Biscuit: I posted about my GERD a few hours ago on another thread......it's the last post.

http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/cando-you-make-medical-appts-on-behalf-of-dh

That was my experience. It was the scariest thing that has happened to me so far in my life.....

Hope that helps!!

After all my tests reaults came back normal for my heart. I talked with friends & family & I've realized I've been suffering from acid reflux/ heart burn for a while and never put it together. The sharp stabbing/burning pain between my shoulder blades, chest pains that minic a heart attack, acid reflux, and a gurggling feeling in my chest/ back. It feels like I have pneumonia just not in my lungs. I've been taking tums like crazy the last few days with no real benefit & finally bought zantac to see if that helps.
I want to see if that helps before I go back to the Dr. and get strung through the wringer of tests again.

Do you think I could be on to something here? What does your GERD feel like & what's helped?
