@sorrycharlie: My whole mom's side has type 2 diabetes (grandma, aunt, mom) so I was kind of expecting it too. If you're good about your diet and timing your meals, you may be able to avoid insulin shots. Good luck!! Hope your levels are low!!! Let me know how I can help!

I'm so sorry to hear that! I have this bad feeling I'm going to end up diagnosed with it. Pre-pregnancy, I lived on carbs. First tri, I've been living on carbs..meat just grosses me out.

I also had a borderline diabetes bloodwork a few months prior to conceiving, and have several family members that have type 1 or type 2, AND have had gestational. sigh. I might be coming back to bug you!

@rubies, @winniebee: Thanks. I was totally hoping I wouldn't have to do it again! Oh well. As long as the baby comes out healthy, I can endure the diet and finger pricking!

I was diagnosed with gestation diabetes at 24 weeks with my first pregnancy. I never had to go on insulin or medication because i was SUPER SUPER strict with my diet. Baby came out great. This time around with this 2nd pregnancy, my doctor made me take a GD test early (at 13 weeks) just in case. And I failed! ARGH! So now i'm on this super strict diet again and I have to maintain it until I deliver. It's so disheartening because I crave so many things when I'm pregnant but can't eat most of it.

I had a private nutritionist with my first pregnancy and I hired the same for this pregnancy. I've learned SO much about GD and diabetes in general and I've been totally able to control it by diet alone.

Anyhow, just wanted to share in case there are other pregnant ladies who have been diagnosed with GD and have questions about what to eat/what not to eat/how often to eat, etc. I learned so much during my 1 on 1 sessions that I'm more than happy to share the things that I've learned and that have worked.
