@BabyBruins: Thanks for sharing! I'm worried about being able to sustain the diet longer this time. With #1, I was diagnosed after normal testing (around 24 weeks) and I was just over it by the time I was induced at 39 weeks. This time I'm just 19 weeks along and have a toddler that has discovered the goodness of ice cream, muffins, bread, etc.

And I hear you on maintaining the diet post partum. As much as I wanted to (and came home from the hospital weighing less than before I was pregnant), I had missed ice cream and coke too much.

I just wish I had kept my food journal because I'm having a hard time remembering what I ate that got me through it.

@MamaG: I was able to control it with diet and exercise both times, despite being on bed rest for the last 6 weeks with #2 (not bc of GD). I did notice that my fasting numbers were higher with #2 but still within the recommended range. I gained less weight with #2 and was pregnant 5.5 weeks longer. My delivery was great and I had a successful vbac. He was a little small at 6lbs 8oz, but I also had hypertension.
It was a little harder to follow the diet this time bc of my toddler and I "cheated" more often and always had high readings. But I also exercised a lot more bc I was playing with my 2 year old and taking lots of walks to the park where I worked a desk job before I had my first.
Sadly, the habits have not stuck around after I had the baby and I wish I wanted to eat the diet more, but I am having more sandwiches than salads and more ice cream than greek yogurt.

Yup, me! I had it with my first and just found out today that I have it again for #2.

@BabyBruins: Anything different for you the second time around? I was tested earlier this time and I'm hoping I can keep it in check again without the help of insulin.

My 2 friends that had GD with their 1st pregnancies didn't have it with their second.

ETA: After submitting I realized that actually one had it and the other didn't for their second. The one who did have it again was very borderline so she wasn't as stringent as she was with her first. So clearly it's a crap shoot. :)

I had it with my first and my 1-hour tet this time was borderline that they said they would have let it slide, but with my history had me do the 3-hour. I blew the 3-hour numbers out of the water so I got it again. After testing at home, I totally have it, so I'm glad they caught it.
It runs in my family and my perinatologist said that's a big factor.

I had it with my first, I was borderline according to the 3 hour test with my second but my numbers at home were normal no matter what I ate and I was borderline this pregnancy but my numbers at home are higher than normal so I'm strictly following the diet.

(Maybe I've asked before but I can't find it)

Did you have GD for more than one pregnancy? I had it for baby #2 and I hope I can escape it for any future pregnancies!
