Thank you, this is reassuring! In retrospect, I wish I'd known more of what to expect because I probably would have just made the first appointment later...but too late for that now. I'll just try to stay focused on the positive. I have no idea when I ovulated so I feel a bit in limbo in terms of dates.

@travellingbee: Eeeek, you are so close! So excited for you :-)

When I went for a scan at 5ish weeks they couldn't see a fetal pole but at my 6w 2 d scan, I saw a flicker with a fairly slow heart rate that indicated it had just started beating. We knew exactly when I ovulated because I was monitored but I can imagine that just a couple days off on ovulation date would make a big difference at that point since things are just barely able to be seen. Don't worry! Try to just remember that today you are pregnant. Focus on the holidays and Jan 5 will be here before you know it. That's the day after my due date so I'm trying to do the same ;)

I had a scan at 5 weeks 3 days and there was only a yolk sac, no hb, but went back 2 weeks later and saw a hb. Hope it's just too early to see!

I didn't have an ultrasound too early for a heartbeat, but with DS's first ultrasound, I expected to measure 6w5d or so (based on ovulation and when I got my BFP), and the baby was 3-4 days smaller than that but big enough to have a heartbeat. I still freaked the eff out though bc the dates they were getting would mean I got a positive at 5 or 6 DPO which seemed impossible. So, if you were off on your dates like that, it would be legitimately too early for heartbeat. I bet it was just too early!! FX and head up - I know that wait is going to be torture.

I hate to be that FTM that gets anxious about nothing....and yet here I am anyway! I had my first appointment today, and the NP said she could see a gestational sac and a yolk sac but no fetal pole (that she mentioned anyway) and no heartbeat. Going by my last period, I should be about 6W2D now. I've been having long cycles, though, so before the US even happened the NP said I may have ovulated late.

She didn't seem too concerned, and I'll be going back Jan. 5. I know it's early, but can anyone humor me with stories of similar experiences that turned out well? Jan. 5 feels a long way away, and I'd like to ease my mind a bit if possible :-)
