@Thehistoryofus: Yup, I swaddle him, otherwise he would wake himself up with his hands.

Do you swaddle him in his bed? Maybe that would help him feel cozy. I slept with my daughters swaddle for a while and then let her use it and that helped.

@looch: yeah, that's what I thought too. I have tried putting my breast pads or shirts in his bed too. I haven't done it in awhile though, I'll try that.

I'd do all naps the same, if he takes 3, they should all be in the same place. He might be responding to your smell, so what about putting one of his crib sheets in your bed overnight and then putting that in his crib?

@looch: His first nap today was in his bed, but only 40 minutes long, I went in there right away to try to get him to fall back asleep, but it didn't work.
For his second nap I gave in and put him to sleep on our bed. I'm not sure what it is but he loves our bed and will take a two hour nap there. For now maybe I'll try a gradual transition. One nap in his bed, one nap in ours? Maybe it will make it a little easier on him.

@Coco Bee: that's the risk, that he won't get enough sleep for a short amount of time, but IMO the benefits outweigh a few days of a disrupted routine.

@looch: yeah... he won't fall asleep on his own, he gets worked up about being alone I think.

Yesterday I rocked him until he was practically asleep and set him down in his bed, and he stayed asleep for about an hour and 45 minutes, which is definitely not long enough. Most nights when he sleeps with me, his first stretch is about 5 hours long.

I think today I will try to encourage his naps in his bed and see how that goes. I am afraid though that he won't end up getting enough sleep over the next few days while we try to make the transition.

I second a tight swaddle. We never coslept, but it helped when we transferred him from the cozy feeling of the rock n play into his crib.

We did it cold turkey at 5 weeks. I was doing everything I possibly could to get him to sleep longer, including holding him for 2 hours at the expense of my sanity!

My mom came to visit and she straightened us both out, lol. She took charge and we got him into the crib. Having the swaddle really helped him. Now, getting him to fall asleep in the crib was another story.

I had my LO in the arm's reach for about a week and then I wanted her in the crib. I started with naps and then did bedtime. I would swaddle her, put on the white noise, and rock her. Within a week, she was sleeping fine in her crib for naps and bedtime.

We really did try putting our son in his bed (we have an arms reach cosleeper next to our bed) from day one, but he resisted it. Only sleeping 20 minutes at a time. We found in that first week the only way to get him to sleep for 2 hours at a time was by holding him. So my husband and I spent the first couple weeks of his life taking turns holding him through the night. At about 2-3 weeks old, I started taking him to bed with me for sanity's sake - it was the only way I was going to get some sleep. And by 4 weeks we had mastered nursing in bed which made life so much easier for both of us. He is 9.5 weeks now and my husband and I feel ready to have our bed back to ourselves. Or at least, have the option of switching between the two (because honestly, sometimes I really miss my baby!! and love sleeping with him!).

Does anyone have experience with transitioning a baby from cosleeping to his own bed? Any tips? Cause my son does not like it.
