Success with a level 1 dr browns nipple! Thanks everyone! I don't plan on him having to take a bottle very often, but we wanted to practice so that when I can't nurse him he will still eat.
This was pretty quick success, hopefully he takes it next time too.

I heat and refrigerate for next feeding and never had an issue. I only used half or one ounce when doing bottle practice to start because I couldn't deal with wasting it. I have a great freezer stash because my 5 month old never took a bottle from me. Honestly, we started trying at 2 weeks and she just never took to it until I went back to work. The first week or two were horrible, and she's better 2 months in but still throws a fit over it a lot of the time. I'd try a few bottles, but if there's one baby takes decently just stick with one until they get it. I ended up trying soooo many bottles it was ridiculous. Finally I just picked the one she did "best" to be consistent.

Also could warm the nipple under warm water. White noise/feed when almost asleep. I had some success with DD1 by nursing first for a minute and sneaking the bottle in her mouth. It helps if they're not totally starving.

Heated milk should only sit out for about an hour. If you're trying to get him to take a bottle, try using fresh pumped milk until he gets the hang of it. It can sit out longer (I've seen 5-7 hours).
I agree with the slow flow nipple! Or maybe try another type of bottle. My LO liked the comotomo bottles. They're supposed to be the most "breast like".

I agree with the slow-flow nipple -- I've even seen it recommended to use a preemie nipple because it comes out the slowest. Might help with the gagging?

We warm milk and then refrigerate it. I also have left it out for many hours and used it. I know it's not recommended but we've never had a problem.
If he's 3 weeks old, and make sure it's a slow flow nipple but other than that, I think the baby just needs to learned he has to take the bottle! He will probably resist but keep trying..My son struggled but eventually took it no problem!

My DD was so easy, took any bottle, no issue. My DS is almost 3 weeks old, and I can tell it's going to be more of a challenge with him. Today I left him with DH for the first time, and left a bottle of bm. Well, it didn't go well, apparently he hated it and gagged when milk came out.
First question is, I don't want to waste the milk, how long would you still use it for when we try again? A couple hours ok for it to sit out? I don't want to refrigerate it because it's already been heated.
Second question is, I know we can try different nipples, any other tips for getting him to tolerate a bottle?
