Update:

At daycare Friday they said she has been a bit dramatic lately, but nothing directed toward other kids. She didn't do anything to cause the biting (like hitting, or taking a toy or anything). So I felt better about that.

Over the weekend I noticed at some point she popped her first molar on the top, so maybe that is why she has been so fussy lately.

She only had one temper tantrum this weekend, and overall seemed really happy.

I'm sorry this happened to her, My daughter also gotten bitten at daycare. I agree that at her age she probably doesnt even remember being bitten and the acting out is not because she isnt having a good time at daycare.

It happened to my LO a couple of months ago around 15 months. We received an incident report that he was bitten. His bruise from the teeth marks lasted at least a few days but he seemed to be OK behavior wise. At daycare I think they gave him a new toy that he loves and he was allowed to take it home for the weekend.
The incident report was something a template with a few blanks (Your child was bitten vs your child bit another child) so I think it happens a lot.

Acting out is totally normal for that age. 18 months it gets worse. Really until they can communicate better.

Just one bite from daycare is normal. Even in a small home setting its going to happen.

My husband normally does daycare drop off and pick up but he has a dr. appointment so I will be doing it today. I'll ask about the biting situation when I'm there and also if she is acting out more. I'm also curious if they know what prompted the biting, like did she do something prior? I'll give an update tonight or tomorrow.

Ask what they are doing when biting occurs, are the teachers employing any tactics to shadow the biter?

She also often acts 'stressed' at home after daycare lately, but she really LOVES daycare at this age and often doesn't want to leave when I pick her up. It's concerning to me, of course, but I try to tell myself it's normal for this age. DH also told me he read that toddlers work hard to keep it together at daycare when things are bothering them (teething, for example - she's gotten 6 teeth this month) and then act out at home in the evening to help de-stress. I thought that was interesting and made a lot of sense.

DD was bit several times at daycare. They'd warned us about it (that it was normal and would happen) before they got to that age and I think that helped it not be as much of a shock. Luckily none were bad injuries - just marks. Apparently DD even bit one kid back once after he bit her, which was a tiny bit funny (she's usually so gentle, haha).

My son was bitten a few times as well, hard enough to bruise. I did make sure that they were talking to the parents of the biter as well as letting me know. Once he got old enough I was able to ask his which kid was doing the biting, which led to weeks of "Mommy, Bastian bit my."

Yeah, unfortunately, this all sounds normal. And being bitten at this age is pretty normal too. Both my kids have been bitten a couple times at daycare.

Her acting out is normal for this age. It sucks to be the parent of a child being bit but it really does happen. I wouldn't worry until it happens again. Both my girls have been bit at daycare. DD1 was bit more than once and they immediately added an extra teacher in the room to shadow the biter. DD2 was bit once and not again.
Honestly, both were biters at home around that age because they're teething. We were just lucky that they never bit at daycare!

I think this all sounds age appropriate. But if your mommy instincts are going off then trust it.

My daughter got bit when she started daycare at 11 months old. Happened a total of 8 times? She didn't know enough to be "sad" about it, but it did make me question her going there. The teachers were great about keeping the kid who was doing the biting away, and it resolved after a week or so. She and that child are now friends (although I'm sure neither of them know there was biting involved at first).

I recently had my second daughter and kept the oldest at daycare during my maternity leave. I would suggest doing the same- it helps them to have their routine.

As for the acting out, it could be the change, it could also just be the age. That's around the age they start to realize they are independent.... hang in there, mama! It gets easier.

My 1 year old daughter was bit yesterday while at daycare. It was enough that I can tell she will bruise, but the skin isn't broken. She is at a center so she is only with similar aged children.

They said she cried pretty hard after, but mostly she just didn't like the ice pack they tried to apply.

She has been acting frustrated and dramatic lately... hitting the food on her highchair, throwing herself on the ground and crying when we say no, etc. I'm worried she isn't having a fun experience of playing/learning at daycare.

I'm due with my second child in May, and we were going to keep paying for daycare for my daughter that way she can go when I felt I needed it on maternity leave, but now I'm wondering if I should just pull her out when I'm off.

Some additional info... she is going to a new daycare 3 days/week (2 with my in laws) in September and my son will start (5 days/week) after myself and husband take some staggered leave around the fall.

Any thoughts on her recent acting out, my sadness over her getting bit, or the daycare situation?
