DH and I try to do at least a couple hours of divide and conquer during the weekends. He will take LO1 to the park while I stay home with the baby or I will take LO1 to run errands with me while he takes the baby.

@Mrs. Sunshine: but I do think having a sibling outweighs the downsides of me splitting attention. So I try to remind myself of that.

@Mrs. Sunshine: my older one started preschool, two mornings a week, and it's been really really good for all of us. The baby tends to nap for a lot of the time she's in school, which is good- alone time for me!- but bad that I don't get to do much one on one with her. This morning she was so sweet and happy I didn't want to put her down for her nap!

@Silva: I've thought about enrolling my oldest daughter in MOD or preschool a couple days a week. I just don't see how there is time otherwise. And like you, it will sometimes be struggle for me to not want to use that time for something else. I just look at her and realize that I don't even remember breastfeeding her and I did it for over a year!

@Mrsbells: @Foodnerd81: ugh. It's so hard. We had such a sweet time at bedtime tonight and it just really hit home for me. She deserve some much more and already employs attention grabbing tactics. I want to give her more without making any other relationship in my family suffer

I'm taking a parent/child class with my newborn (I also did it with my daughter). My daughter goes to preschool two days a week, and it happens on one of those days. It can feel like a drag to get myself there sometimes, especially since there are a million things I could do at home. But honestly, sometimes the quiet observation time and singing at this group feel like the only times during the week that I really see him. It's all a little blurry right now in my life but I hope I can continue to prioritize having something scheduled with each kid

@Mrs. Sunshine: I really struggle with this as well. Add to that, my toddler is jealous of affection towards the baby so I end up avoiding paying too much attention or affection when the toddler is around, which is totally unfair to the baby.

What are your best tips for creating regular one on one time with your kids? I feel like DD1 gets what she needs because she is older and therefore more verbal and sleeps less but DD2 really could use some more TLC. She's 17 months. I do my best to make nap and bed time routine just us. I try my best to focus on her as much as I can but sometimes I just don't feel like there is time! I'm often feeling sadness and longing when I think of my relationship with her and I'd like to take steps to make us a priority.
