That's a great suggestion! Also, you could probably do a little research and find a link between radiation and breast cancer (there's gotta be one, right?) and point that out as a concern to help you get out of it. If you've gone to these facilities before, just claim that you've recently done the research and don't want to be exposed anymore.

Good luck!

Is there any history of medical problems in your family? If any of those problems are exacerbated by radiation, then that might be a get out of jail free card here!

Have you been to one of these facilities before? If this is your first time, you could probably do what @Mr. Bee suggested and just tell your boss you really feel uncomfortable being exposed to any levels of radiation.

If you've been before, then that excuse probably wouldn't work. How close are you with your boss? Do you think you could tell him/her you're TTC and are worried about going? Or would you be uncomfortable telling him/her?

Otherwise... pull the sick card! Although... how often do you have to visit these facilities? You may not be able to pull the sick card every time, especially if it takes multiple cycles to get pregnant (hopefully not though).

I should say that it is sort of a fluke that I have to go. I work in the main office which is 3 states away from the facility. I am actually in the process of looking elsewhere since they informed me about this trip but that's obviously not going to help the situation next week.

I am not pregnant, but I also would not visit a facility that processes radioactive waste!

I wouldn't even explain it to my boss. If s/he asked, I would just say, "Oh, h*** no!!"

The hubs and I are currently TTC and this cycle has been really good so far. We got the smiley OPK, the chart looks good and all of the physical signs that I read about in TCOYF are there. I just found out that I have to go out of town for work next week which would normally be a great way to keep my mind off of things for the TWW. The problem is that I am scheduled to visit a facility that processes radioactive waste during my trip. This isn’t the only facility I am visiting and I won’t be there for more than a couple of hours but I am freaking out.

When I started with the company they gave me a huge packet of information for pregnant women detailing the potential risks associated with exposure to radioactive materials (miscarriage & birth defects). The company is required to keep women away from the facilities containing the waste if she discloses that she is pregnant. Here’s where I need some advice, I don’t want my company to know that we are TTC but I am more concerned with something happening to the pregnancy if we were successful this cycle. The facility is a low-level radioactive facility but I am not comfortable with any amount of exposure. Any advice on what I can say to my boss to get me out of this portion of the visit? I’ve even thought about pretending to be sick so that I don’t have to go that day.
