@Ms.Badger: at first only 1 or 2 oz per meal but he picked it up as the nursing cut back. I don't think he drinks as much as he did bm, about 12 oz a day but he's a good eater.

Lo is 11 months. We nurse 2 or 3 times a day and he has one 6oz bottle of wcm 3 days a week when he is with his babysitter. I started giving wcm at 11 months. Before that it was pumped milk or a little formula. I quiet pumping at 10 months. And it was OK if I missed a session here or there. I think we will keep morning and night for a while. But I am pregnant so who really knows. Pumping was really hard with my work schedule. I was so happy to let it go.

Following, I haven't totally decided what our approach will be yet. LO is 10.5 months and I just dropped my third pump at work about a week ago. It hasn't really saved me any time though since I'm pumping the same amount of milk (and same number of minutes) in those two pump sessions as I was in three sessions previously.

I would really like to donate my freezer stash since I feel strongly about donating if I'm able to do so (same as my feelings about being a blood donor). But I don't know that I will donate the entire stash, since it would be so nice to use it to keep giving her a bottle a day at daycare after I stop pumping.

Ped said 11 months for introducing WCM during the day was fine. LO transitioned to daycare at this time without any breastmilk and just did WCM from a straw cup.

@Adira: Thanks! I was planning on day weaning and then tackling night/morning weaning, but I like the idea of bottle weaning and then BM weaning.
@cam: How much WCM was he taking initially? Did you work up to the same amount as his bottles were before switching?
@LAZB: You are a GODESS for pumping that often at 10 months, here I am complaining about my 2 work pumps. I hope J just loves straight-up WCM, no mixing would be ideal

I just went through all of this, and it worked out well, so I'll tell you what I did.
I started cutting back pumping sessions at work at 11 months. I had around 250 oz frozen, so I wasn't trying to build on that. I cut out a pumping session every 2ish weeks, so before 11 months I would nurse and pump before work, pump three times at work, and nurse before bed. I cut the pump before work first (about 10.5months), and then the others.
I noticed a drop in supply once I started cutting back, so I didn't have as much of a stash as I thought. I did have enough though, but barely.
I started giving one serving of wcm a day about a week before her birthday. She loved it, and I didn't mix it at all.

I wasn't pumping but did wean at a year because I was going back to work and our schedules just didn't work to keep bf. I started giving him whole milk in a straw cup about 11 months with his solid food. He wasn't super into it at first but drank more and more. I cut out one feeding per week and it went smoothly. We kept his bedtime bottle for a while after so I would probably plan to use the extra for that.

@Ms.Badger: Logan drinks out of a straw cup (Zoli). I transitioned him from a bottle to a straw cup first (removed one bottle a week and replaced with the straw cup).

As for how much BM you need for mixing, you can really tailor that based on how much you have or how long you want to draw it out. I have a huge stash, so I'm planning on doing 1 oz WCM and 5 oz BM in each cup for a week, then 2 oz WCM and 4 oz BM for a week, etc. To do that, I need about 420 oz of BM. But if I had less, I'd just do more WCM and less BM each week, or increase the WCM amount every few days instead of weekly.

ETA: Just to be clear, Logan drinks four 6 oz cups a day - he's completely weaned. I could've drawn out my transition to WCM or started later if we were still nursing morning/night and I didn't have to use my stash for those times.

@Adira: Thanks! Did you do all those "mixes" in sippy or straw cups or in bottle? How much BM did you need for mixing? FWIW, J is currently taking 2 6 oz bottles while I'm at work

Congratulations on making it so far!!

I started dropping pump sessions around 11 months with Logan. I was hoping to continue nursing morning and night though, so I dropped them really slowly, only dropping one pump session every couple weeks and then supplementing any BM I needed with my stash. After weaning, I've continued to give BM from my stash until I need to start mixing to be fully on WCM before running out (I'm planning on mixing 1-2 oz of WCM with 4-5 oz of BM and gradually upping the WCM and decreasing the BM until we've fully transitioned).

J is almost 10 months and I'm planning on weaning at 1 year. I have a pretty healthy stash of BM in our freezer (200-250 oz) and am wondering how to best make use of this stash going forward. I would love to cut-back on pumping at work to once a day (from current of twice a day) and just supplement the rest of what he needs (while I'm at work) from my stash. I have enough to do this starting today, continue with the same feedings until 12 months and have at least 50 oz left. For moms who have been there, is this a reasonable plan? Would it be better to have a larger stash left over for any reason?

Also, when did you attempt giving your LO WCM to see if they'd drink it, or if you needed to slowly transition using BM?

Thanks!
