I felt the same way! I promise you it will be fine. I ended up getting an epidural and sleeping through a lot if my labor. Before I got it I didn't know what to do and I wanted to take it back! But now I know it was worth it. You will do great!

Same question. What's a cervical check? I don't remember getting one. Maybe it's cause my LO came out a month early (water broke in the middle of the night)?

i remember my first cervical check a few weeks back. o.m.g. was so painful. i need encouragement too haha. subsequent ones weren't as bad as that first one. definitely felt as painful as an hsg.

now, i use that as a gauge to let me know if i'm close to labor.

What are cervical checks? Are they different from checks the doctor preforms towards the end of the pregnancy to see if you are dialated/effaced?

ok, so question. I can understand why cervical checks would be necessary if you have some sort of background issue going on like pre-e, but for someone who has had no complications in their pregnancy, why would a cervical check be medically necessary? I'm going to ask my dr about this as well, when the time comes, but maybe someone on here will know?

I agree Cervical checks hurt. Not the kind of hurt your body is prepared for. Labor is a different kind of pain, one that is really worth it. Trust me, you'll do fine! :)

Really, you will be fine. Your body and mind prepare themselves for those moments of delivery... I went unmedicated until the end and then got an epidural and had the most beautiful birth experience. It wasn't bad at all!

Labor was uncomfortable and all, but you totally forget it. I told my husband the other day that I'd rather go through childbirth again than have to go to the dentist. He told me I'm remembering labor and delivery incorrectly. Whatever.

You will definitely be ok, I went through TWO DAYS of labor thanks to induction b/c of pre-e and that was still nothing (thanks to epidural and nubain) compared to the intense pain of cervical checks!

You will be fine! The adrenaline that will rush through your body when you know you're in labor and baby is coming REALLY helps. I had so much adrenaline when it was finally time to start pushing that even though it had been almost 24 hours of labor with a lot of drama and physically tiring stuff, I pushed for almost 3 hours and I literally thought it was 20 minutes!

And I agree, the vaginal exams suck.... they will suck all the way through. But again, when your adrenaline is pumping, it doesn't seem like such a big deal when you are in the hospital. Plus, you're always anxious to hear how far along you are!

Don't worry! I always tell people... if I can survive it, ANYONE can!!!! I am the biggest wimp EVER!

I didn't like the cervical checks either! I went into the hospital to get induced with absolutely no progress so I started from zero. To find my cervix they had to tilt the table.

I was scared too.. but just keep telling yourself.. "lots and lots of women do this everyday, I can too.." or what else helped me is... there are 14 year old girls out there who have had babies, if they can, I can too! Goodluck! and don't worry too much.. soon you will have a beautiful baby!

I thought the same thing! Cervical checks when you're tense vs relaxed make a huge difference, though. From a non-medicated birth experience though, the checks are much more unpleasant than labor :)

Just remember that your body has prepared for and more importantly, is built for delivering a baby. And although the pain is intense, it gradually increases from the first contraction so is much more bearable than say a sudden broken bone. You're stronger than you think ;)
