Oh, I can empathize! I got smacked--hard--in the face last night! When we side-nurse he likes to try to put his hand in my mouth. Like pps, I've taken to holding his hand, kissing his palm, putting it against my cheek.

If it's any consolation, LO kicked me in the throat yesterday when I was getting her ready for her bath. Thankfully she is still little, but that was less than fun.

I get him to grab my finger instead. He still waves his hand around and pushes my hand in every direction, but at least it's not hitting me. I gently say "please don't do that," even though he doesn't understand that.

@autumn865: I agree with @T.H.O.U. I usually hold my LO's free hand and kiss her palm occasionally. Now she hold her hands up to my mouth for kisses all the time. :)

@T.H.O.U.: I think this is what she is doing. Her fingers are in my mouth and hand grabbing at my glasses. She's so distractable!

I think for us she was trying to feel me. It helped if I held her hand and stroked my cheek or arm so she could feel that I was near.

LO did this too, especially around that age. I would just try to move it down to his side and gently hold it there for a little before letting go. I do believe his issue was caused by reflux though which was flaring at that time. Sorry no real advice, just wanted to say it happened to us too.

My 6 month old has been flailing her free arm around while she eats to the point where she is smacking me in the face through her feeding! I have tried to gently hold her hand and give her things to grab (chewbeads) but she doesn't get the point. I know in a month she will be in a new phase and I can laugh about this, but any suggestions on how to teach her better "breastfeeding manners"?
