@josina: dose #2 was not fabulous lol my arm wasn't as sore either, but I woke up that night feeling like I had a fever - body aches, chills, etc, but my temp was normal. So Thursday was not great, but I made it through work with Tylenol. Friday I woke up feeling much better, but my lymph nodes were swollen and sore on the side I got the shot. By Saturday I was feeling normal. So, all in all, not too bad and I'd definitely do it again! I'm also happy to be done!!! Glad you had no side effects!

I got my 2nd dose Tuesday with zero side effects. Even the sore arm wasn't as bad as dose 1. So excited to be done, especially after our covid scare!

Which vaccine did you get? Pfizer
Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc? Not really. I signed up the day vaccines opened up to everyone in the state. I spent about half an hour (noncontinuously) to make convenient appointments for myself and my husband. Now almost a month later many places are accepting walk-ins.
Any side effects? No.
1st thing you're looking forward to post-vaccine?! My parents are visiting now! They are fully vaccinated, and I got my second shot while they have been here.

Ugh! I guess we will be testing out how well 1 dose of Pfizer works when exposed. My step-daughter got Covid from a friend, exposed 4 days after her vaccine, positive 9 days after. DH was then exposed 7 days after his 1st, and I was 3 weeks after my 1st.
We were sooooo close! So far she just has cold symptoms, DH and I and the 2 LO's will test Wednesday. Fingers crossed!!!

@erinbaderin: I’m so glad you were able to get the AZ! I got Pfizer yesterday as per my previous post, and my husband is booked at a pharmacy to get the AZ tomorrow evening. He’s nervous about the side effects as lots of people we know who got the AZ already report similar experiences to yours, but hey, it’ll be a small price to pay for having some protection against Covid.

Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc?
It was really easy! I made us an appointment online, it was only 5 minutes away, and they administered the vaccines through our car window! I was really impressed!

Any side effects? Headache and tired, but I’m not sure if it was from the vaccine.

Which vaccine did you get? I for Pfizer (shot 1 only so far)

Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc? It was *very hard*-- I am in Canada and as others have said, our vaccine situation has been frustrating. In addition to that, I live in Toronto, which has been a h*llfire of covid, and then in addition to that, I live in a neighbourhood that has been disproportionately hit. The gov't identified areas based on postal code, and then each area has hospitals that are identified with the area you live in (ie: we are in the catchment area of 3 hospitals), and then one of those hospitals offered appts for 18-49 year olds in my area. I think they had approx 300 doses/day that they released, and we were able to get one of them.

Any side effects? Not yet, but I am all of 1.5 hours out!

1st thing you're looking forward to post-vaccine?! Hugging family, taking my kids to see their great grandmothers across the country from where we live!

Got Pfizer, I will be two weeks out from my second dose tomorrow! 🎉
Not too difficult getting an appointment. The soonest one that was available was 45 minutes away, but not a big deal. As the vaccines were first rolling out, it was more difficult to book appointments (was helping friends & family get appointments), but things seem to be more opened up now.

I didn’t have any side effects from the first dose besides a very slightly sore arm. The second dose I didn’t have any side effects until about 18 hours later. Slight headache, low fever and slight nausea. Really not bad! Felt fine the next day.

Looking forward to seeing vaccinated friends and family members. I won’t feel completely comfortable being super out and about until our kids are vaccinated. Hoping to participate in some more outdoor activities with our kids this summer.

Big changes in my circumstance in the last week - due to the disastrous situation Ontario is in they opened up the AstraZeneca shots for everybody 40+, I jumped right into it and got vaccinated today!

Was it hard making the appointment: not really, but I had to be tricky. They announced the change in ages Sunday night. I jumped on the Costco vaccination website, and they had appointments available for April 20 (the day the age limit changed) but they hadn’t yet updated the eligibility dates - they were still saying you had to be born in 1964 or earlier, so I put that at my birth year to get past the screening page, and the my actual birth year on the actual registration page. There were a tonne of appointments available when I booked mine and my husband’s through this method, but by the next morning they’d changed the eligibility year but every appointment slot was gone.

Side effects: not so far - my arm is a little tender but I’ve had much worse flu shots.

What am I looking forward to: eating at a restaurant, and having a fairly normal summer. Oh, and movies! I really miss movies in the movie theatre.

I lucked out because AZ made teachers eligible in priority 1b, so my first dose was Jan 13 and my 2nd was Feb 2. My husband is also a teacher (in person at a high school this whole time despite horrid covid stats.....) and he got his vaccine the same days.

Which vaccine did you get? Pfizer

Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc? Yes, to a degree, the website was overloaded the first day teachers were eligible but after about an hour of refreshing and retrying, we were able to get appts 36 hours later.

Any side effects? None for me, significant for my husband. However, I'd caution everyone to think about how they talk about the side effects. Please don't overdramatize them, especially in conversations with vaccine-hesitant people. It's one of the main reasons people are holding back on getting vaccine.

https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/dashboard/kff-covid-19-vaccine-monitor-dashboard/

1st thing you're looking forward to post-vaccine?! Mainly it was being able to see friends and family without being worried about getting or spreading Covid.

We have gone back to a mostly normal life (church, school, outdoor dining, etc) with masks. We don't ever plan to go back to indoor grocery shopping, and we're still hesitant on going back to the gym. I did join a small yoga studio though.

Answering for my mom since idk when it'll be available in my country.

- Moderna
- My mother initially had a difficult time getting an appointment, but it only took about a week for it all to be sorted. She's a senior citizen. She was informed that they'll contact her about her 2nd dose and that worked out really well.

Any side effects? No side effects after the first dose. Fever and weakness after the second dose. It went away after a day or two and no side effects since.

1st thing you're looking forward to post-vaccine?!
I'll answer this for myself: I'm looking forward to going into a garden center again or a garden expo (but doubt there's any organized this year, and the season has already started).

@MrsSCB: Exactly, the marginal benefit from a new dose is so much greater than the marginal benefit from a booster. And in the US in particular we're (unfortunately) coming up on the point where the pace of vaccination is going to slow down because we're going to need to start convincing people to get vaccinated as opposed to just opening the doors and watching people line up for their shots.

@karenbme: I feel like that makes sense. From what I’ve read, one dose (of Pfizer anyway) gets you to 70-80%. It does seem like it might be better to get more people to 70-80 than a smaller number to 90 or so.

@Mommy Finger: @erinbaderin: I heard the same thing on the radio yesterday--a doctor talking about how from both an equity and a pure public health perspective getting as many people as possible (both within countries and worldwide) the first dose is really the most efficient way to deal with the pandemic and if rich countries like the US would release surplus doses rather than hording them this whole thing would be over more quickly.

@Mommy Finger: I was also expecting the worst; fortunately my reaction was very similar to yours.
I couldn't fall asleep that night until 6am then I slept through my morning meetings. Headache, muscle soreness. My temp was 99.8F at the highest I recorded so I didn't get into fever territory.

My stomach was a little off so I didn't feel like eating but I wasn't nauseous. I was hit with an intense 2am smoothie craving but settled for some apple sauce pouches from our initial pandemic lockdown prep. Later in the afternoon when I was feeling better DH got me a smoothie and I got raging heartburn like I've never had before.

I mostly felt better by the end of Tuesday. I was supposed to do a day trip for work on Wednesday, leaving home at 3am, but I wasn't quite ready to commit to that Tuesday night. When I woke up Wednesday I still had a slight headache but it went away by mid day.

@Corduroy: Curious to know what your side effects were as I got my 2nd Moderna shot on the same day! I was prepared for the worst as my SIL talked it up like she was hit by a freight train but it wasn't too bad. I didn't sleep well that night and my arm definitely hurt but I otherwise felt a bit achy the next day and in sort of a brain fog. My hands and feet were super cold but otherwise I was good. I hydrated like crazy in the days leading up to it and on that day so maybe that helped?

Otherwise, I had to wake up super early quite a few mornings to get on the Walgreens website to get an appointment.

@erinbaderin: I was actually reading something about how the UK did this exact thing and how it's made all the difference in getting their numbers down. So maybe that's the route that the US should have taken. Though no matter what, seems like a horrible situation. One of my besties is in the Toronto area and has no idea when she'll be able to get her dose.

-Which vaccine did you get?Pfizer
-Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc? Lucked out and was eligible fairly early on, and was able to get an appt through one of the mass sites in my area pretty easily.
-Any side effects? Sore arm after the first shot; after the second shot, I had a sore arm, some GI pains and felt like I had chills or skin sensitivity for a couple days. (My husband had a low grade fever and body aches/chills for about 36 hours.)
-1st thing you're looking forward to post-vaccine?! We went out to eat! We ate outside since we had our kids with us and they aren’t vaccinated but we hadn’t eaten out at all in a year. So nice to have someone else clean up after what felt like a year of a million dirty dishes.

Also can’t wait to travel to see my parents and extended family! They live in an area that is still a hot spot thanks to a crappy governor so we’re waiting until that improves since we’d be bringing kids with us, but I’ll be excited to go :)

@josina: I got the Pfizer vaccine. Getting the appointment online was super easy. Sore arm was my only side effect. I’m looking forward to the second dose. I think just being around extended family without worry is what I look forward to most!

Just wanted to update in case anyone is still waiting for their turn -- my husband and I both got our second shots this week (Pfizer) and had basically zero side effects from either shot, other than a mildly sore arm. Hope everyone has an opportunity to be vaccinated ASAP! :-)

My cousin was in the hospital with Covid recently -- he's young, healthy, fit...so I'm feeling extra grateful for the incredible hard work behind these vaccines.

@lindseykaye: yes! We live in FL and I saw a post on my local city FB that CVS was looking for people to give their shots to, 1 town over. The person who posted was the only appointment they had at CVS that day, just 1! They were asking for no paperwork, just sign up online.
So I signed DH up he had no issues and then 2 days later I went with my sister. Appointments are still easy to get even though it is avail to everyone 16yrs old and up now.
We got Pfizer. DH sore arm and tiredness. I had sore arm and headache after each shot. 2nd shot the sore arm was my whole arm radiating pain, not like a regular shot hurt. And some tenderness in my lymph nodes under my arm.
We are taking a road trip this summer. Still going to be socially distant as far as activities. But we get to see some family who is also fully vaccinated.
