That stool is a great gift!

I would also suggest some flash cards in addition to books. What about growth chart? I want to get my LO one for christmas!

I love this personalized name stool:

http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=536391&cmSource=Search

Art supplies are also great. Charlie really got into drawing from 18 months on.

My favorite gift is cash! It's always the right color and right size. If you feel uncomfortable giving money, I'd go with books or art supplies. I never gift clothing or personal items, parents are pretty picky about that kind of stuff, myself included. Another idea is something like swimming lessons, or a pass to a children's museum.

I like artbee's suggestion...

Pop-up books are good too.... Also art supplies, but that might sort of be like a toy... How about toddler tableware, a cozy blanket, or personalized backpack? Would a tricycle or mini scooter count? good luck!

Puzzles, yes. Not sure on books. He's shown an interest in Clifford books, but he's too little for paperback books, and he's got a lot of the board books (he chews on them as much as he "reads" them.)

What about books or puzzles? I wonder if his parents would include those in the toys category.

My nephew will be 17 months come Christmas. His parents have already specifically said NO TOYS. Any recommendations for Christmas gifts? He's in 2T clothes now (his grandpa on the other side is 6'9" - he's a TALL little boy.) I just can't find anything that'd make a good gift...
