@erinbaderin: I agree, if she's going back to work and it's an environment where she needs to wear business or business casual attire she'd probably love to get a new blouse or pants. So maybe something with a range of very casual to business like Banana Republic or J Crew.

@mrskansas: I also think your suggestion of a blowout or haircut is a nice gesture since she's been home for a while. I actually still get my normal maintenance stuff done regardless of staying home so only do that if you know she has forgone a lot of that over the years.

If she has a desk job maybe something like a mug for her desk or a mousepad? Any chance you have pics of your LO and her LO(s) together?

We were in a similar situation: Our nanny moved away just after my son's second birthday. Since she was moving, a local gift certificate did not make sense. I got her a photo mug with pictures of my son along with several boxes of tea. (She was a tea drinker.) I wanted something that would be small and easy to move but was still personal.

Maybe a gift certificate to a clothing store? If she's going back to work in an office she might need to invest in some more business-y clothes.

I was thinking a gift certificate to a nice salon for a blow out or hair cut. I thought that might be nice before going back to work!

I also like the restaurant gift card idea.

I was going to suggest a gift card too. Those always seem to go over well

Our babysitter told me last night that she is no longer going to be able to watch our daughter since she has to unexpectedly go back to work for financial reasons (she has been a SAHM for years).

She has watched my 2 year old for a few hours a day since she was 3 months old and we adore her. I'd like to get her something as a "thank you" for everything she has done for our family.

Any ideas?
