I second the A&A blankets, the stain remover, and the Nose Frieda.

Also, good socks that stay on. I like Gymboree and Trumpette.
Happiest Baby on the Block book.
Storage bins. I had several people use them as the gift bag for the gift and I use them for all sorts of stuff.
Nursing supplies and after delivery healing supplies.

@Torchwood: I would put together a first aid basket! That's a lot of stuff she may not be thinking about and all that can add up quickly.

Also maybe a nice nursing top for her?

Books aren't necessarily things people think of, but they are nice to have, especially the classics.

@cmomma17: Ha ha, that one is great! I may have to include that!

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! I'll be taking them all into consideration. Keep 'em coming!

Also, a giant bottle of stain remover (like shout spray) is my favorite baby shower gift! It's one of the first things I had to send DH out for! People gift you all kinds of adorable outfits, but nobody tells you about poop explosions!!!!

I second both the Aden and Anais blankets and the nose frida! Although I didn't appreciate the NoseFrida until a couple months in. The A&A blankets were wonderful, and they actually make these burp cloth things that turn into bibs when snapped that are amazing too! These: http://www.amazon.com/aden-anais-Muslin-Burpy-Jungle/dp/B002SW3CAS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391806370&sr=8-1&keywords=aden+and+anais+burpy+bib

A white noise machine is also crucial in my opinion and I love mine soooooo much! It's also a projector (which we are just starting to use with LO now at 9 months). http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Nursery-Projector-Sound-System/dp/B006SFUEF2/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1391806439&sr=8-15&keywords=white+noise

So my cousin (the one who found out she's having a baby in a month) has her registries up, but they're REALLY bare. Like, I'm not even sure there's enough stuff for everyone of her friends and family to have something to buy. Obviously, she may add to them, but given that she only has till next weekend to do so, maybe not. And of course, she's probably getting a lot of gear as loans. But this is someone who didn't want kids and doesn't know much at all about what you need for a baby.

So can you recommend something that was a really great item you used a lot, that might not be something a first time mom with no clue would even think of?
