Under the nile or pure rest products or plan toys are my favorites! I highly recommend under the nile. I also have a rec for the best nursing pillow ever but it is around $100... not sure of budget or if they plan to nurse.

I'd suggest a pack of Green Mountain pre-folds. They are awesome as burp cloths and of course can be used for cloth diapering too. I have size small, which are good, but you could go a size bigger too. Oh, and maybe a pack of cloth wipes too. I don't CD at the moment, but cloth wipes are amazing.

I always give one of these sleep gowns: http://amzn.com/B00F0RV6O2

they were our favorite when our daughter was tiny. books are always a lovely gift. And if you're looking to spend a bit more, NUI organics makes incredibly soft merino wool baby clothes. If I was rich my kid would exclusively wear their clothing during the first three months. Wool is great for babies!

@Mrs. Twine: Yay, I'm glad to hear they were good (and kind!) in person! For the last 6 mo or so, it has been the only cd that's kept my daughter from fussing in the car!

Incidentally, this is the book my mom got me that has a little bit of a nature focus: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1584690909/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1394765820&sr=1-1&pi=SY200_QL40
They have it on regular (not board book) hard cover as well. It's a sweet book... I ask J to point to the mommies/daddies and the babies and she is able to do so.

ETA: Here is a better link: http://www.dawnpub.com/our-books/if-you-were-my-baby-a-wildlife-lullaby/

@78h2o: Okie Dokie Brothers are AWESOME. They played a free concert at the elementary school that Ellie attends and we took the girls (Lorelei was only 3/4 months old) and it was a blast. They were so nice! They even talked with Ellie at the end and were just fantastically polite to her and thoughtful.

I dunno. I'm sure we're over-generalizing. At least I am. 'Cause I was essentially just thinking about gifts I (I mean we ;) ) would like.

Wool (Nui Organics), organic muslin swaddles, wooden/crochet teethers and rattles (Etsy has some great ones).

Basically any organic cotton clothing or accessories (like blankets, burp cloths, etc) would be great, I would think!

@Mrs. Twine: that's a good idea! My mom just gave my LO a book with a nature focus that I really like, so I'll suggest that. I also like the poetry and artwork ideas.

The gift I sent them was a small thing - an Okie Dokie Brothers cd, but I think they will like it since they play bluegrass...

These are all good ideas - thanks everyone!

For a crunchy housewarming present, I once filled a useful bucket with green cleaning supplies and some organic snacks. To modify it for a baby, you could get some organic or natural baby products. Trial size might be nice. A stainless sippy, those knitted booties with the Sherpa/leather soles. Bamboobies.

My mom is looking for gift ideas for her nephew's first baby (a little girl). I would describe him and his wife as "crunchy" - they are very socially and environmentally conscious, had a home birth, baby-wear, etc. Their baby shower was gift free, so no registry.

What clothing lines do you think they might like? (I have some ideas, but want to see if you agree).

Any other recommended gear or products?

I love all the EMAB products, so that was one suggestion I gave my mom, but not sure what else...
