Wow poor thing..you're a sweetheart for thinking of her struggle! Maybe a gift basket of bath salts, lotions, chocolates, magazines, candles...something to relax her...
Or a gift card to the movies with enough on there for a friend and a box of candies so she can go after work and ease her mind:)

gift certificates are a good idea, or extra cash is good too.

i think a gift certificate to a store like macys is probably better. i've received b&b gift certificates that i've never used. it's just hard to find the time, and there are restrictions, etc.

What about a gift certificate to a b&b so she can have a little vacation?

I just thought of that because I know my cleaning lady was able to have a free stay at a hotel for a weekend last weekend and she was very very excited about it.

We have an absolutely wonderful house keeper that comes every other week and goes above and beyond what we agreed on. (Like wash, fold and put away DDs clothes and organize the fridge and pantry). She is also so good and is so sweet around DD.

Last time she came, I found out that she lost her son about this time last year in a horrible car accident and she's been struggling with the anniversary of the event. I feel awful because she has been our house keeper for over a year and I never knew anything about it (she comes while we're at work). I know that she took on a lot of extra work to pay for the funeral.

I want to do something really special for her but I'm at a loss. I don't think she would like gift certificates to a spa or anything...

Thoughts?
