We are going to get DHs grandma a colouring book and pencil crayons. She was using mils while visiting and really liked it.

@gingerbebe: that's a good idea... I'm in Canada, I'll have to look into the options local to me!

@yin: A craft is a nice idea! I'll have to look into what my 2.5 yo would be capable of making :)

Photo gifts are my go to presents for parents and grandparents. Also cute crafts from the kids are a hit. I've made photo calendars, mugs, and coasters before.

@sslm: Get her a fruit basket. Like a box of pears from Harry and David. It's healthy and fancy and in your price range. Even if she's on a low sugar diet she may appreciate having some fresh fruit to snack on during the holidays.

I would do a few books and include the receipt

Maybe your LO can scribble on paper and you can turn it into a book mark.

Add a photo and be done

Maybe get her a book that's one of those 1000 books Everyone Must Read, plus a book light, or maybe a gift card to her favorite bookstore (or a book and a gift receipt?).

@erinbaderin: @MaryM: forgot to mention she's on some kind of insane diet right now, so food seems like a bad choice :(

@regberadaisy: She probably would, but the relationship between her and I, and her and my mom (even though she's her mother) is very strained. That is a really nice idea though!

I think edibles are a great idea for someone who has too much "stuff".

My go to is usually Wolfermann's. They have great baked goods and do baskets. Maybe you can frame it as tea or coffee for her and her friends/family? (their english muffins are AMAZING)

A cozy sweater or blanket? A scarf? One year I got my Nana an electric blanket...or what about a fancy food gift basket? Chocolates or jams/cookies or something?

Or do you think she'd appreciate something like a donation in her name? We used to get my Papa and his wife something from Plan Canada, like a goat or a flock of geese.

@sslm: do you think she would be interested in doing a holiday activity with you and your DD? Like maybe tea/lunch with Santa with you, dd and your mom?

HELP! She's so challenging to buy for. She says she has too many pajamas/slippers, she hates anything scented, she reads a lot but has a ton of books and I have no way of knowing what she has... Her condo is completely decorated, filled to the brim. The only idea I have is more framed photos of my DD, but we do that basically every year. And this year we didn't get any professional photos done.

She doesn't really eat out, or go to movies... she doesn't do things like manicures or pedicures, or get her hair done really.

We also don't get along super well... not sure if that matters.

My budget is $30-40. Help please!
