DS was 6w for his first Christmas and I don't think we got him anything other than an ornament. I love the college fund idea and had my family use that. Otherwise, some people got him things he would use later and I just held onto them until they were age appropriate.

I just made the gift I got Xander a combo gift, even though baby #2 won't be able to use it anytime soon (it's a table and chair set).

But my grandmother gave me money to buy the baby a present, so I got him swaddle blankets. I already have EIGHT, but Xander is obsessed with them, so I figured I'd get the baby some of his own.

@T.H.O.U.:
We saved all the jackets/coats from our first child, so we have that already. They were both born in the same month too so the seasons and sizes will line up correctly.

@Becksabee: What about going ahead and getting a nice winter jacket for next year?

I like the college fund idea! Actually, with our first son, several relatives send checks for his birthday every year and so we opened him a savings account. He's 3 and already has a decent amount in it. I'm planning on doing the same with this child, but I need the birth certificate before I can open the account.

Bath toys may be an idea. We have some, but they were a gift to our other child.

We picked out an easel/art table for our 3 year old. We were thinking about calling that a gift to both of them, and then just picking out an additional small gift to each of them.

I think we are asking for bath toys, I feel like they need to get replaced frequently enough that you might need a refresh anyway.

A special lovey and duplicate could be nice.

Alternately, you could pool the money for your kids and get a zoo pass or other membership for your family. Promise to send lots of pictures through the year and it could wind up a favorite gift!

Probably not the most fun response, but I'd probably save the money (in a college fund or just for later when you think of something he might need that you don't already have) and tell MIL that the things you already chose are "her" gifts to him.

I'm due Dec 5, and we got our 2nd son some teethers, a car seat toy, some books, binkies, hats, swaddle sleep sack, and some interactive toys (since he'll be close to a year old before he'll get any more "gifts"). You could also do crib sheets, scrapbook or baby book, and maybe some new bath toys.

I need Christmas present ideas for our new little guy. He's currently 4 weeks old.

He's our second child (same gender as first) and so we have a lot of stuff for him already. We kept all the baby toys and clothes we had from our first child. It's a combination of stuff we had bought ourselves and hand me downs from both of our families. I have a bookcase full of toys for the 3-12 month range and more clothes than I really have room for.

My MIL can't really make it out shopping anymore due to her health and she has given us $50 for each person in our family to pick out presents for. We found stuff for our 3 year old (even though he has way too much stuff, too!) but I'm not sure about our 4 week old. We already picked out gifts from us - an interactive book about farm animals, a child tablet for learning letters, numbers, etc and then a Baby's First Christmas ornament. Any ideas?
