<description>&#60;p&#62;It depends on the person and how close we are. This happens a lot with kid birthday parties. We get invited to a lot, but we can't attend all of them. If it's a good friend of mine, I'll give them a present even if we can't make the party.

&#60;p&#62;I find the gift giving is more situational for me.  If it's someone who usually doesn't give a gift when they don't attend, I don't bother myself.  But, when it's something like a shower we usually give a gift regardless.
