@karenbme: yes!! Dresses in the crawling stage are awful because they kneel on their dress and can't move! Lots of wasted dresses in that size !

This post may be too old because it is more for toddler girls, but maybe it will be helpful! https://www.hellobee.com/2018/04/09/my-favorite-brands-for-girl-toddler-clothing/

Oh - and I totally agree with what has already been mentioned here. Skip dresses until she's walking!

This is all awesome advice! I never thought about dresses/crawling (although it totally makes sense! And I myself don’t love wearing dresses, so :silly: ) I’ve been trying not to buy toooo much because everything is so summer-y right now and none of my babies have been a predictable size for the season (Case in point...I had a 16 lb 2 month old 😳)

@DesertDreams88: I may or may not have just added ALL of those to my (private) registry list

I have a girl and a boy and girl clothes are much more fun! You have a lot of good advice above but the one practical tip I haven’t seen is no dresses for crawling babies—their knees get stuck! And everyone is frustrated! So dresses are great up to six months and then after 1 but I would skip 9 month dresses if your kids tend to be on target with gross motor milestones.

And my big girl still loves dresses and leggings. She is always cute and comfortable! Happy shopping!

I've had a lot of fun with clothes, but I still dress my girl for comfort--at 10 months we still don't do a ton of dresses, she's in daycare and I just feel like she's happier/safer in leggings and onesies. (Also guess I'm an outlier but I'm super anti-headband/bow, they look so uncomfortable to me.) That said, some things that I've loved that I never did with my son: cardigans in fall/winter/early spring, onesies with ruching on the sleeves, pointelle onesies/leggings, bubble onesies in the summer (SO CUTE). also this summer for outfitting we're doing a ton of spaghetti-strap onesies with bloomers on top of them, which is like a completely adorable femme version of the short-sleeved onesies/shorts combo I did for my son. H&M is fantastic for the first year, and I love Zara for toddler stuff.

And this is not ground-breaking or girl-specific, but for stuff I know she'll need, if I see a good print I buy on sale even if it only comes in huge sizes like 4T. So I've gotten Hanna Andersen jammies and the like for dirt cheap.
ETA but my favorite thing has been decorating her nursery!

So I really tried to avoid dresses until she was a confident walker. And even now I limit them bc they tend to get tangled on the playground or under her knees

Brands: the usual suspects like gap and target but I really also like childhoods clothing, June and January, l’ovedbaby (runs slim), tucker and Tate, bonds, and Jamie Kay. I tend towards less decorated stuff, neutrals, etc.

Also one thing a friend told me is to be careful with dresses while they’re in the crawling phase. I guess her daughter used to get really frustrated trying to crawl in a dress.

FYI, if you like Gap stuff, they’ve got a ton of baby stuff on sale right now and they’re also doing 40% off everything including sale. I just got close to 20 (I think) pieces in various sizes including a couple sleeper 2 packs for a little more than $100. Mostly stalking for recommendations, but wanted to share! 😃

I also drool over the mini boden catalog every time it comes, but it’s one that I def only buy (for nieces and nephews so far) from the sale sections.

I would just recommend to buy the clothes you want when they're tiny, because my DD got opinionated way sooner than I thought she would! By 2 she has to pick out her own clothes.
My fav. are Old Navy jeggings - super cute and fit well.
Also love the big bag of bow headbands from Amazon - and they lasted up to 2 years - when she got opinionated ;). Or it's super easy to DIY felt bows on bands made from nylons.

Another favorite of mine now is casual dresses - easy to put on and cool for summer!

Spearmint baby for a few items (they can be a bit pricey but oh so cute!) and Target has some really cute girls clothes too! H&M is awesome as well. I had my first girl in May and having any restraint is hard! I did use a lot of my DS white onesies and gender neutral items for the first month. I agree with @GRACEANDJOY: bows from Amazon are super cute and come in packs.

I have a nov girl and I dressed her for warmth at first... fleece pants with cute onesie tops. I loved the pants that had feet built in during the winter/colder months bc she would kick off the socks! You'll get tons of girl clothes as gifts though bc people just can't help the cuteness!!

Now that DD is 5 she has taken to wearing dresses every darn day. So its a dress with leggings or shorts under.

I buy from old navy, target, carters, walmart for fill ins and consignment /second hand ftw. I got a bag of girl clothes from my community fb page for $20 and it had 10+ dresses in it!! I was able to weed out the ones that weren't so cute or worn and still have a bunch to add to DD's closet.

As for hair, I used to but in bows or ponies but now DD requests NOTHING...

Lots of good advice so far. I dress my girl babies for comfort more than style but the prints and patterns for girls are super cute so even if you're getting basic onesies or sleepers it will feel special with your first girl.

As far as later on, I really love to do dresses/leggings combos. There is so much longevity for girl clothes that boy clothes don't have because of the variety of styles. Dresses can become shirts, pants can become capris. I have had some items last for several years because of these types of transitions.

We love Carter's (and the offshoots they make for Target, Amazon, Walmart, etc), as well as Target brands (Cat and Jack and Cloud Island) and Old Navy. Gap brand has cute stuff too but I am cheap lol.

Oh man I have 2 girls and I have no restraints lol. Everything is cute! Target, Gap, ON, H&M and sometimes Carters/Osh Gosh. I know people get into like cult brands for headbands, but I just buy from Amazon that comes in every color possible to match outfits haha! For a baby I probably wouldn't dress that differently than a boy; body suits + pants, basics. But have fuunnn! I'm having a 3rd and kind of hoping it's another girl haha!

E was a november baby so when I put her in a dress for the first month or so she wore leggings with it instead of tights. I only put her in tights for christmas b/c of pictures and pure craziness. Most of the time she wore and still wears pretty basic comfy play type clothes, onsies and pants, I bring out the dresses for church and other nice occasions. In the summer I loved ruffle butt rompers and apron dresses for the cute factor alone.
I have a ribbon with her hair bows clipped to that hangs above her changing table and just used one of the bow clips to clip on my favorite headbands for easy grabbing. Depending on how much hair your baby has at birth will determine what clips you can use, babywisp makes several styles of clip and headband to suit all hair amounts.
