I love having a girl. I'd love another daughter so my LOs can have sisters. Would also like to have a boy, but would be happy with all girls too. I grew up with sisters and LOVED it.
DH prefers daughters over sons.. he loves the idea of taking our DD on dates, spoiling her, having a daddy's girl, etc.

Like everyone else, I'd really like one of each. I'm pregnant with our first right now and we will probably have only 2-3 kids. Hopefully we can have one boy and one girl somewhere in there. My husband is one of 8 kids, 7 of them are boys (the girl was the 7th child). That kinda scares me.

We found out we're having a girl and my husband's heart melted. I I think he will be a much better father to a girl than a boy. I'm not sure about my parenting skills but, I'm glad we're having a girl, too. (we're in the one and done club).

Our twins seem to be girls by scans so far, although I know plenty of people who've been surprised that their in-utero daughters turned out to be in-reality boys. I know DH would love a boy- obv he wants daughters too, he's just terrified of them manipulating him with the "Please Daddy" and the batting of eyelashes:)
I met a woman in the hospital a couple weeks back, two weeks left to due date on her (unplanned) fifth pregnancy... She had four boys at home!!! And she was so hoping for a girl! You just wouldn't think you'd have so many of one gender in a row like that! DH has four sisters and one brother, but their birth order is B G B G G G.

We're blessed to have one of each. It's too soon to tell but they both seem very close to us thus far. My husband has a very close relationship with his mom. Sometimes, even more so than my mom and I. So not all is lost with having a boy.

Neither of us really has a preference but we do think about what it would be like to have a boy or girl. I really want my husband to have a son and also want a boy to carry on the family name. I also want a girl for all the typical reasons. More than thinking of our preferences though I often think about my kids as siblings. I want our boy to have a brother as well as a sister to protect. I also want a girl to have a sister. Ideally, we'd have 4 kids..2 boys, 2 girls. I'm thinking that won't happen though.

I was also worried about missing out if I didn't have a daughter, but my mil has two sons and has an amazing relationship with both of them so that always made me feel better. But I did end up with a girl. She's only 7 months so I'm not sure I know many pros and cons yet. Con is that if we follow traditions we'll have to pay for a wedding. And everyone I talk to with teenage girls always warn me about what's to come. I think most parents tend to worry about girls more, but I know I'd worry either way.

I have mixed feelings about the next baby. Hubby wants a boy, and I'd like to have one of each. But I'd also love to give lo a sister because I love the relationship I have with mine. So I'd truly be happy either way.

DH and I both really want daughters. I am so close with my mum, and I really want to have that relationship with my daughter(s) too. I would like a boy as well, but if we ended up having all girls then we would be happy with that. On the other hand, if we had the first three and they were all boys then we would seriously consider adopting a girl.

My view is a little different because of my relationship with my MIL. I love the woman to pieces. Of course I love my own mom but we have a rocky relationship, so MIL is very special to me. DH is her only child, so in her words she "finally gets her little girl."

In a perfect world, I'd want 2 girls and a boy. I want 2 girls so that they could have the sister relationship. Having a boy would be great too! I think DH would enjoy having a son. Also, my dad has 2 daughters and I'd really like to give him a grandson. He'd be a pretty cool grandpa- he is a firefighter, drives a motorcyle, and has a small airplane!

@Witz: yeah, i see how different my relationship with my mom is versus my husband and his mom. of course there are exceptions and mom-sons can be very close but i guess it is not easy to remain AS close once the son gets married. i know i count on my mom for everything but my MIL doesn't get to be involved as much since i would always go to my mom first. especially since having kids.

@Andrea: I know, that saying has stuck with me too! I am close with my mom and super close with my sister, but my relationship with my brother sometimes feels more distant, and we usually write it off as him just being a "boy." But he just got engaged, and I am scared that we're all going to lose him to his wife's family!

Like you we both ultimately want healthy kids. But I would love to have at least one of each. Just because of the mother/daughter thing. :) Planning weddings! hehe. But I would also love a boy because it continues the family line. In my husband's side there has been NO boy yet at all. So I feel some internal pressure to have a boy at some point! Since we're only 1 of 2 cousins on his side left that will still have kids!

I have a daughter and found out yesterday that our second will also be a girl. We plan on having three, so I do hope the last is a boy. But I REALLY wanted a daughter when I had my first. Part of it was the silly superficial stuff (buying girls clothes and shoes) but most of it was that I have an awesome relationship with my mom and sisters and was hoping to have that with a daughter. I'm really excited that my daughter will have a sister now, because my relationship with my sisters is so important to me. I would like to have a son, though. It's the only chance I'll have to be a part of a mother/son relationship, and it would be cool to get to have that. I guess I won't be sad if I never have a son, but I would feel like I missed out on something. My husband is actually pretty cool with being surrounded by women.

My husband would like a son, he wants that bond to teach him sports and hunting and all that manly stuff. I would love a little girl for the exact same reason as you, to have that mother/daughter bond.

However to give my dad his first grandson would be incredible, he's been very patient with his 3 granddaughters (and 3 daughter on top of that) I just know the look on his face would be priceless, he would be thrilled. So I am okay with either gender for our first!

I also want one of each...I think I would be super disappointed if I had only boys or only girls. not that girls and boys aren't wonderful in their own ways, but like you, I want a daughter so I can have the same relationship I have with my mom (not that it would be the same, but you know what I mean). And for Dh, i know he would be disappointed if he didn't have a boy to have that father-son relationship. So I'm pretty sure that if we had 2 boys or 2 girls, we would keep trying! not sure where our breaking point would be, lol.

Lately my husband and I have been talking about gender preference, i.e., whether we'd rather have a baby girl or a baby boy if we could choose. We usually end by saying that we'd be happy with a healthy baby of either gender, but we still talk about what we view as possible pros or cons.

I would love at least one of each... but sometimes I feel like I would definitely be sad if I could not have a girl, because then I would not have the opportunity for a mother/daughter relationship later in life (like what I have with my mom now).

For parents who already have kids, what do you like about having a girl vs. having a boy (or vice versa)? Or for those without kids yet, which do you want and why?
