I'm leaning towards cutting the tips next month! I actually need to do it since we also plan on moving her to her own room before #2 arrives!

We went cold turkey at 15 months, but she had only had them for naps at home and nighttime sleep since 11 months (daycare didn't allow after 11 months). She had more trouble falling asleep at night but still stays asleep fine. I'm glad we stopped when we did.

I'm generally a fan of weaning sooner rather than later and going the way of abstinence. We don't cut tips in our house. Pacifiers just all disappear at bedtime one night and that's the end. We weaned at 17 months and 18 months. K was weaned for daycare naps at about 12 months, so it was just an at home issue.

Mine will be 2 in a couple of weeks and my goal is done by his 2 year well visit on 9/15. (His ped encouraged me to get rid of it at 5 months! And I was like yeah right, not gonna happen. She said it was fine for bedtime only at his 18 month but try to be done entirely by 2 years).
Right now he only has it for nap and bedtime. Up until a week ago we let him have it when getting ready for bed or nap (so pretty much once we started changing him or putting on his pjs). Now he asks for it and we say "after your books" and we only let him have it when he's IN the crib. There's usually some yelling for "binky binky" but I keep saying "after books, binky stays in the crib" and he eventually gets over it when we start the books. I was surprised how quickly he was fine without it for books!
I think in a few more days I will attempt to not give it to him at all just to see how it goes.
But so nervous because he is a SUPERSTAR sleeper!

I would say that he won't really "understand" until closer to 3. We weaned at 2.5 and it was miserable--we cut the tip off and while he got over the paci very quickly, his sleep went to crap. I would personally just wait until he's 3 and then try!

Following, because we're in a similar boat. My plan is to take it away at age 2. We had a lot of travel this summer (flights every couple of weeks) and a cross country trip over Thanksgiving, so I really want him to have it for that (for his sake as well as ours  ). Not looking forward to the actual process, but think that cold turkey might be the best way to go.

We went cold turkey by cutting the nipples off from them, sucked for a day but it was worth it!

My 20 month old LOVES his binki (aka "bay-bay"). We try to only let him have it for nap and bedtime, but somehow he manages to find them or even will go up to his crib and find one behind the crib when he is not supposed to have it. Also, when he sleeps he needs 3 pacifiers - one in his mouth and one in each hand.

So, give me your best tips. How should we wean him? Cold turkey? Now or in a few months, maybe closer to 2 when he will be better able to understand?
