Definitely have a backup. My ILs came about a week before my due date, then picked a fight with us and left on my due date (no baby yet). We'd had a neighbor on call before they came, and thankfully she was able to step in.

I'd make a backup plan. My parents ended up having to fly on a red eye after my water broke a few days early. I was already 10cm and ready to push when they landed.

We were in the same situation, but both go our families live in different countries. However, I did not want my MIL around for the birth. I compiled a short list of people to be on standby. DD ended up being three weeks early (!!!) and DS stayed with one of our play group friends who was on the short list. The whole thing went very smoothly.

Plan for her to come around the due date, but still make a back-up plan. Do you have friends that could watch him? My parents are planning to come right before our due date, but we'll have a few friends as back-ups for LO's care just in case things happen earlier. Ultimately, you plan and then just hope for the best.

So we live on the opposite coast from my and my husband's immediate families. We are planning to ask my mom to come out before the due date of our second (estimated may 12) but are unsure when she should fly out. I am worried the baby could come early and then we would be scrambling to find someone to watch our 2 year old son, who is difficult to put down at night.

Anyone have, or in, a similar situation? Any advice? Should we plan around the due date and hope for the best?
