Actually, it sounds like there's progress!

Does she use a pacifier? Do you think that (for now), it could help her get over her need to comfort nurse?

@BabyBoecksMom: aw, thanks for asking! Tried sans sleep sack, with just cotton PJs. Put her down at 7:30 (she woke up later yesterday and didn't seem sleepy until then), cried until 7:40p.

Slept until 11:00p, cried on and off for an hour. Hubs went in to comfort her after an hour and she went ballistic again, placed her in her crib asleep, but she flipped out as soon as her head hit the mattress. So I caved and comfort nursed her :( She had been sucking on her sleeve for the entire hour she was crying, so I thought she was hungry? But she didn't eat much, so there goes any progress... LOL.

Slept from midnight until 4am. Cried on and off until 6:30am. Nursed her, she slept until 8:30am.

Soooooooo I can't really tell how this is going. WAHHHHHHHH.

@HabesBabe: Just wanted to say good luck tonight! It does get easier as the days go on, but sleep training was so much harder on me than on DH!

@BabyBoecksMom: ok, good to know-- i will definitely change up the PJ/sleep sack configuration tonight and see if that helps at all. I'll try the bottle on Friday night if we're still having issues. thanks so much!

@HabesBabe: Our house is at 70 at night. And while I'm wearing cotton pants and sleeping under a comforter, she sleeps in just cotton, footed pjs.

Regarding the feeding - I actually started giving her bottles at night so I could see how much she was eating. I would only go in with 2 oz if she had been fussing for more than 20 min. If she finished that and acted like she was still hungry, I would give her more. After a week or so, I figured out when she was actually hungry vs. just wanting it for comfort (like when she only took 2oz or less).

@boiledpnut: so now you've got me thinking about the temperature thing-- i know clothing-wise, babies should be wearing one more layer than we do because they can't regulate their temperature as well. the temp is a bit off on her monitor (about 4-6 degrees), so it's about 70 in her room. i'm wearing cotton PJs and i sleep under a sheet and a duvet-- so i guess i'm figuring baby should be sleeping similarly? how do you do it? i also read that 65-70 are the best temps for baby to sleep in.... so i guess i'm just lost!

So update on night #1:
6:45p: nursed
7:15p: bedtime
slept until 10:05p
10:05p-12:25a: cried on and off (2 hours 20 mins)
hubs went in to comfort her, ended up picking her up and then placed her back in the crib asleep around 12:35a
slept until 3:00a
3:00a: nursed (I figured she would be hungry since it had been almost 6 hours since she last nursed)
slept until 6:00a
6:00a-6:30a: whimper/cried-- this is where I got lost. I didn't know if I should let her cry or nurse her, so I ended up going in and nursing her.
6:45a-8:30a: slept
8:30a: woke up for the day

Total crying time: 2 hrs, 50 mins :(
Total sleep time: 10 hours

Any suggestions about what I should change for tonight?

@boiledpnut: we'll try sans sleep sack tonight, but i think it serves as a lovey for her, too. She's never sweaty, and her cheeks aren't rosy or warm.

@BabyBoecksMom: yes, she nursed about thirty minutes before bedtime, so I believe she was full :) thanks for the suggestion! And yay for finally STTN! How did you know your LO really was hungry with each waking?

@leelee: she cried for almost 2 1/2 hours last night. The hubs went in to do a check and tried rubbing her belly to console her. Of course she freaked, so he picked her up and calmed her down. She sleep until 3 (this was around midnight), then I nursed her at 3.

How'd the rest of the night go?

We are going to stop feeding at night LO very, very soon. He sleeps through half the time, so I know he can do it. Ugh.

@HabesBabe: goodluck! When I tried to sleep train DD she cried for 2 hours off and on until DH couldn't take it anymore. We haven't tried since :/ . She is 8 months now and I wish we had trained her earlier. Now that she is a rolling machine and wakes up from hitting her head on the crib slats and screams so uncontrollably that we have to pick her up to console her and reposition her.

@HabesBabe: that's so tough. Just checking, but did you make sure she ate really good before she CIO'd? I'm hoping (for your sake) she's not like my LO, who really was hungry every time she woke at night. At 1 yr, she finally STTN *sigh*

@BoogieBea: umm yeah, she only stopped crying for about 5 minutes and has been going on and off for about an hour now. LOL. She keeps playing with her sleep sack, which is what she usually does before falling asleep, but then she'll start to cry again :(

Looks like she fell back asleep after 22 minutes of crying... not too bad! But now homegirl's turned from noon/midnight to 9pm (if that makes any sense).

Good luck! Sleep training it tough! We did it with our son when he was 6.5 months old so much like your LO, the crying was excruciating. We waited to sleep train as well because we just weren't ready before then. But, in the end, it was so worth it for us. He was able to fall asleep at night and stay asleep, take proper naps and became a happier baby. He was sleep trained pretty much by the next day. I hope it goes well for you. Hang in there!

LO is a little over 7 months old and we are giving CIO a try tonight (after 5 night wakings last night). She is able to fall asleep on her own for naps and when we put her down in her crib for the night, but she's been waking up every 2-3 hours to comfort nurse for the past 2 months or so.

She was STTN from 2 months to 5 1/2 months, so the sudden night wakings kind of caught us off guard, so I would go in and nurse her each time she cried (only after 15-30 seconds of crying, usually!), so this is going to be a hard habit to break.

We put her down at 7:15p, and right on schedule-- she started crying around 10:05. It's been 10 minutes and she's still going strong... but pausing for breaths, followed by a little whimpering, followed by some "MAMAMAMMAMA" (KILLS me), and some more crying. I'm *hoping* that she'll fall back asleep within the next 10 minutes or so?

I'm not planning on doing checks (when we tried this before, the checks made her more upset) at any set increments, but I will swoop her up as soon as her crying changes to "OMG MOMMMM/inconsolable." Any other tips/suggestions? I'm actually feeling OK about it so far, but the hubs was kind of against it. I'm trying to stay optimistic (better for all of us in the long run! should only be 3 days-ish of torture!), but after re-reading Mrs. Bee's "When to Sleep Train" blog post (http://www.hellobee.com/2012/03/23/when-to-sleep-train/), it looks like we couldn't have picked a worse time. Whoops.

Wish us luck!
