They were SO SO excited. We also got a zoo membership from my Grandma. The kids didn't really understand that until it was summer and we were going to the zoo, but nevertheless, I love having it. </p> <p>This year, they each had a big thing on their wishlist that they have been talking about for months, so we opted to get them each the toy on their wishlist instead. For my niece's 5th birthday our main gift to her was a special weekend at our house and a trip to a kids spa with me. She was SO excited once it was explained to her, but didn't get it at first. It wouldn't necessarily deter me from doing it, but don't expect them to be super excited about it. Particularly if it's an experience gift they have to wait to do... (Like a membership to a seasonal park that only opens in spring given for Christmas)</p> <p>My kids don't really need more toys and we are wanting to gift some experiences to them (from us or grandparents) but I am curious if they will have a hard time grasping that their "big gift" is something for later on if that makes sense. I know we will give them some kind of toy as well but it won't be tons of toys. </p>
