@meadow: I thought the dr Browns bottles with the silicone to be too bulky. I wasn't really worried about dropping the bottles and having them shatter at all. And I didn't think the silicone part made holding the bottle that much more comfortable.

One upshot for the LifeFactory or Dr Browns ones is that if you lose any of the nipples, collars, or lids you can use more readily available medela or parent's choice ones.

We have a few Avent Naturals, a few Evenflows, and a few Born Frees. So far we pretty much only use the Avents. The Evenflows feel a little flimsy to me (the caps), and LO couldn't get anything out of the Born (which I haven't taken the time to trouble shoot yet).

@Mrs. Lion: Is it for the Natural or the Classic? If it's the former, I'll take it.

We were very happy with Avent Natural glass bottles. Daycare didn't mind so we didn't bother with silicone sleeves. DD wasn't picky about her bottles so there was no way we were going to spend the time cleaning extra parts when simple bottles worked just as well.

My guy uses Lifefactory bottles. We use dr Browns nipples on them and no leaks. They are expensive but I felt very strongly about glass and felt they were worth the investment. And I am planning on using them with sippy tops and normal caps later on.

We really love the glass avent!

Sorry to sidetrack this convo, but would anyone who uses glass Avent bottles like a silicone sleeve (4oz size)? We just gave our glass bottles to a friend and she's having a boy so I kept it. It's pink :) free to a good home. I was actually about to post on classifieds but figured I would check here first when I saw this thread.

Just fyi...if your lo's will be at daycare make sure they allow glass bottles!

Ours does not so we will be using half glass (life factory) half not glass to accommodate the daycare rules...

Evenflo is super cheap and simple and easy to use find in stores (our Walmart had them). Also fit perfectly on my medela pump to pump directly in them. I had a couple life factory which I also really liked but were much pricier.

@meadow: The sleeves came out after our first and now that we are on our second (and last baby) I never bought them but I always wanted to! A lot of people hate washing the parts, but we use one of those dishwasher baskets for the vents, nipples, and caps and our stemware rack for the long blue pieces. It's never been a huge issue for us.

I started with dr Browns but hates the parts. We use avent natural bottles now with the preemie nipple and it works great. No leaks and no issues with swallowing too much air. The only downside is that they don't make silicone sleeves for them. They make these weird fabric ones that are pretty awful. My daycare made me use them otherwise I wouldn't. There is another brand that will fit, but the sleeve was more expensive than the bottle!

@meadow: The opening is normal and not any smaller than a regular bottle. I left the silicone sleeve on the bottle and never took it off. I made the mistake of taking off the silicone sleeve off of the adult water bottles, and it was a pain to get back on.

Those who use silicone sleeves -- can you leave those on in the dishwasher etc? I like the idea of the cushioning/gripping but not loving the idea of wrestling it on and off :-)

Multiple lactation consultants told me to go with Dr. Browns if bottle feeding while nursing. We have those and Avent (bought before I was told that), and definitely prefer the Browns. Avents have given us leaking issues (usually because it's easy to not get the top on straight and not realize it).

Dr Browns. They are great for BF babies. I bought a bunch of LifeFactory and my baby didn't like the bottle nipple, so I sold them all. Dr Browns can be annoying to clean (a number of parts), but the vent in there is awesome for reducing the air they swallow, and they are some of the cheapest glass bottles around. I loved them!
