We also bought a Dutailier glider on Craigslist and washed our cushions, armrests included at the laundromat in All Free & clear and Oxi. We used the bigger machines for the bigger pieces. We actually put ours in the large dryer on low for a little just to give them a head start on drying. They came out great!

@Emsmems: I'm pretty sure I put the back cushion in the wash too. I bent it so that it was rounded around the drum and washed it by itself in warm water on gentle with low spin. Mine was also a CL find and it was super dirty. It came out of the wash looking great though!

@sunny: oh, good to know!! The ottoman cover comes off, so that one I washed. But the armrests were my biggest worry, so I am so happy to know yours are ok putting the whole thing in the wash!! You just made my day :)

The back cushion is the only thing I for sure can't wash, but only the bottom (by the seat) is dirty. I'll try cleaning that myself because even if it doesn't look good, no one will really see it!

@Emsmems: I think we have the same one. I cleaned it myself in the washing machine. I washed on warm/gentle and then air dried it in the sun. I would not put anything in the dryer! To be absolutely clear, yes I put the entire armrest (including the cushion sewn inside) into the washer.

We don't have the ottoman so I can't speak to that.

i don't have any advice, but i'd search online for tips and tricks and try anything that looked promising! if that ends up not working as well as you had hoped, then maybe purchase new covers. it would be worth it to clean yourself as much as possible anyway --- since if you end up getting covers any damage done by over cleaning would be covered, and it still would be 'cleaner' even if it is still stained... :)

great deal, though!!!!! :)

Oxyclean will do it. Otherwise I'd make those arm covers like what grandma & grandpa use to have on their couches & chairs. You could choose a cute fabric so it looks cute in your nursery.

I would probably just but new ones from dutalier since that sounds the easiest and you still have a really nice glider for under $300.

Do you have a spot bot type cleaner? That's what I use on my glider... And the floor etc.

@looch: The post is deleted now, but it said something like "fabric on cushions can be removed for cleaning". Which yes, 2 of them can... And I guess it's my fault for not looking at ALL of the cushions to see for myself. Plus, I got a good deal regardless, if I buy all new cushions it's still cheaper than buying a new glider!

I would try to call the seller and see if they will refund you money since the description was misleading...unless if the wording in the ad were clear and you bought it anyway?

Upholstered items are such a hard thing for me to buy used. I just wouldn't be able to get it clean enough..

Considering how much spitup is CAKED onto my glider, if I were to ever re-sell it I would most certainly recommend replacing/professionally cleaning the upholstery.

Bees, I need your advice/wisdom. Sorry if this is long-winded!

This week, I bought a Dutailier glider and ottoman off Craiglist for $150! I was super excited because it reclines, locks, etc. The cushion covers were advertised as being able to come off and wash, so I bought it even though it was kinda dirty (not terrible, no big stains, but there are some crusty spots that are someone else's baby's spit up, I'm sure). The fabric is off white, for reference.

Well, only the seat and the ottoman cushion covers come off. The back and armrests fabric doesn't come off, and one of the armrests is one the dirtiest parts of the whole thing!

So, my options: My next, probably cheapest option is to have a professional upholstery cleaner clean them. Never used one, don't know how well it will work! Otherwise, Dutailier has some closeout colors where I could buy completely new cushions/fabric for $120 total. While that's almost as much as I've already paid, it's cheaper than buying a brand new Dutailier glider/ottoman.

Does anyone have experience cleaning their glider cushions? What should I do?!

ETA: photo for reference!
