@BakerBee: My dad was diabetic plus it it required for the birth center I want to use. I am worried I will miss the window to do the finger prick test and wind up needing to take the test repeatedly due to vomiting.

@pinkb: That worries me too. I am leaning towards the finger pricks. It won't be fun but at least we will have a full picture up front and I won't need to mess with extra testing.

I did the one hour twice, passed one and failed the next. Then passed the 3 hour. I can't even stand the smell of sweet drinks since then and LO is 17 months old. So I would opt for the finger pricks for 2 weeks, I am actually hoping I get it as an option next time.

Unfortunately I don't have any advice, but I was told that if I threw-up that I would have to re-take the test.

I hate to even bring this up, but what are your risk factors? I know there are some Bees that have declined the test or just been willing to eat a diet in line with the GD diet. It's just a thought.

I think one day of torture would be better than 2 weeks personally! My test is today though, so maybe I'll change my mind after :)

I did the glucola testing with both boys. While it wasn't ideal I managed to not throw up long enough to do the test. If you do the test bring something with you to eat after the draw. I took potato chips with me even tho my test was in the morning. Shortly after the test Dh and I went for breakfast so I could get protein. When I tested with N I failed the one hour and had to do the three hour (which I passed). My mum came into town to help me for the day. My test was in the morning and I was pretty useless after.

I guess what I am getting at is I couldn't remember to stick myself 4 times a day for two weeks.

My midwives' office offers a choice between doing the Glucola screening or testing your blood sugar four times a day for two weeks. I need to decide which one to do by my next visit so I wanted to see if anyone else could weigh in with opinions.

I have hyperemesis gravidarum which is part of why I am worried about the Glucola test. It sounds like a royal pain to drink that, throw it up or at least sit there miserable, potentially fail and then have to take the 3 hour test which will undoubtedly be horrible since I am finally at a point where eating small amounts frequently actually helps with the nausea. Of course the flip side is paying attention for two weeks to blood sugar doesn't sound like much fun either, especially since I can't seem to remember to lock the door these days...
