I didn't change anything! You want to fail if you have GD anyways so you can be healthy and adjust accordingly :)

I don't think it matters. If you have gestational diabetes, not eating sweet for a few days isn't going to change that. And if you do have it, the possibility of fooling a test won't really help you or your baby. I vote for normal diet. I had to do the one hour and three hour test. Failed the one hour miserably. Passed the three hour with flying colors.

I didn't change anything except not drink juice or eat fruit the morning of (per my doctor). It's been about 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything, but my doctor's philosophy is no news is good news.

I kept my diet the same for my 1 hour test. I had half a donut at 8am and a sandwich at 12pm. My test was at 2pm. I failed. I chalk it up to what I ate.

I went for the 3 hour test (fasting - but still no change in diet) and I passed.

I think the food you eat definately will effect your test results but I would think you would want the results to be a true picture.

I didn't change my diet, because I was actually worried I wouldn't pass because I had been having reactions to sugar. So I kept eating like normal so that the results would be accurate.

My doctor did tell me to eat an egg the morning of my test, since I told her I'd been reacting to sugar - she didn't want the sugar drink to totally overload me in case I was having glucose issues. So I had one hard-boiled egg around 7am, had my first blood draw at 8:50, and the 2nd at 9:50. Just found out today that I passed.

I don't think it will make a huge difference if at all. Plus, you want to eat normally so the test will be accurate to your current diet. I passed the 1 hour with my first and failed the 1 hour with my second but passed the 3 hours with flying colors. And I ate bland oatmeal the morning of both of my appointments. Didn't make a difference! Good luck on yours!!

I'm not the healthiest eater in the world since being pregnant. I changed nothing (even had a bagel for breakfast the day of my test) and I passed with flying colors. Like @highwire: I wanted the test to really be reflective of my regular eating habits rather than tricking the test into a negative result if I did actually have GD.

Thanks ladies! I don't normally overload on sweets but I have been a carb monster during pregnancy - haha! I'm planning on having eggs beforehand since they told me I could eat 2 hrs before and just seeing how things turn out!

I eat pretty healthy in general, so didn't change anything... but I was told not to eat after midnight and my screening was in the morning, so I didn't eat until after the test was over.

I have my glucose screening in a little over a week. Did you try to cut back on sweets before your test? I usually have a few cookies and milk before bed and maybe a little sweet after lunch - was thinking of cutting that out until after my screening. Or would it even make a difference???

What did you do?
