i never heard of that. I had to drink the orange drink then it came back i had gestational diabetes. I had to test my blood sugar 4 times a day and monitor what i ate. All my blood sugars always came back in a good range.

I'd be really interested in trying this option with my next pregnancy. I failed the one hour test (with the orange drink) BIG TIME and was then followed closely for GD. I tested my blood sugar multiple times a day from then on out and NEVER ONCE had a high reading, even when I was taken off the low carb diet. At the end of my pregnancy, my high risk OB told me that I probably never had GD and instead just had a bad reaction to the sugar drink.

I heard about eating eggs beforehand, but I didn't eat anything prior to my test. I got fruit punch flavor. :) Tasted like super sweet hawaiian punch.. and I liked it! :D
I had to do the re-test since my levels were higher than normal, but I passed my second test. Having my blood drawn so many times was NOT fun.

When I was seeing an OB she told me to fast before taking the glucose test and didn't give me the bfast option. But, I recently switched to midwife care and she gave me the 50g breakfast option. And, of course, I want the food instead of the glucose drink! I'm just wondering if anyone heard anything about it not being accurate or a good option.

The drink actually didn't bother me either. I've heard of the jelly bean test but never the breakfast. In fact, I was told to eat breakfast prior to my 1 hour screening.

that's something that I might talk to my dr about too. I'm not even sure if I'm going to take the test yet. I don't agree with testing it just because it's "standard procedure", but it's not something that I brought up with my dr yet, either. I'll also be watching this board to see what others have to say about that kind of glucose test - I've never heard of it before.

I never heard that either. The orange drink does taste like flat (thick) fantra soda but i got so sick on it ... definitely too much sugar for my body. but that didnt result in gestational diabetes.

I had never heard of that! Interesting! I'll be sure to keep an eye on this thread to see what others have to say.

I must, however, say that I didn't mind my glucose tests at all. I thought the orange drink tasted just like flat Fanta soda!

Has anyone taken the glucose screen test with the 50g carb breakfast instead of the orange liquid?

I'm due to take mine in 2 weeks and my midwife recommended the breakfast, but I've read mixed things about it--for example...any protein you eat (from the eggs) will not give them an accurate read of the sugar.

Would love some insight!
