My doctor orders a 2-hour glucose tolerance test rather than the 1-hour test that gives a ton of false positives. The 2-hour test involves fasting for 8-14 hours beforehand, drinking the sugary drink, and getting stuck with 3 needles over the course of 2 hours. It sucked. Boo! I could have gotten out of it if I'd just kept my big mouth shut. I knew they didn't do them routinely here in the UK, so I asked my midwife at our last visit when they do it. She told me that they only do it for those at higher risk (namely Indian women and those with a higher BMI). Then she realized that my BMI is high enough that I need it done. (She never thinks I'm as fat as I am!) She had to scramble to get me an appointment.<br /> The letter I got said not to each anything from 10PM the night before. My appointment isn't until like 9AM.
