I'm not really a fan of cutting out major things like gluten, dairy, etc. entirely, unless you're intolerant, of course! If my doctor isn't the one recommending cutting it out, I wouldn't do it. But I don't think there's anything wrong with going gluten free if you feel strongly about it.

I'd already gone 80/20 Paleo when I started seeing my chiropractor but she recommended I cut out caffeine completely. I freaked out but realized that reaction really did show how dependent I was on it. No caffeine and chiro adjustments worked for me, even without eliminating gluten completely. If you eat a really pasta/bread heavy diet it might be worth looking into though.

Eating gluten and dairy brings me so much happiness that I wouldn't voluntarily give it up unless my doctor told me there was an important medical reason to do so.

That said, if you are interested, try it! You might notice a difference and feel great.

I have PCOS and insulin resistance. I didn't go gluten free or paleo, but I did go on a very low carb diet after I was diagnosed. 2 weeks after I started I got my period after only a 60 day cycle (which was good for me) and 2 weeks later I conceived around CD14, when previously I never ovulated that early, if at all. I am now 13w3d!

I don't really have any research or empirical evidence to support it, but I've wondered about it a bit. I have PCOS and took 19 cycles to conceive. In an attempt to deal with my insulin resistance, I adopted a kind of no refined carbs diet - which naturally eliminated a lot of gluten containing products. Could have been completely coincidental, but we conceived within two months of starting the diet.

My RE highly suggested that I go gluten and dairy free when I was going through IVF. At that point, I was willing to try anything! He reasoning was that the majority of people have gluten and dairy sensitivities and that while TTC you should cut down any inflammation in your body. Basically, the gluten and dairy puts your body in "fight mode" so that it is fighting against everything including an embryo.

I don't know if I totally believe all of this, but like I was saying, I was really to the point where I would do anything if it increased my odds. I did notice a few good things - I lost 15 pounds and I had a lot more energy. I also got pregnant on my first IVF round - I really don't know if the gluten and dairy free helped though. After 12 weeks of pregnancy I went back to eating gluten and dairy.

I think it can help, but if there is really something wrong, I don't think it would be the problem. Gluten acts like antibodies and creates inflammation. It could make implantation harder, but it really depends on what else is going on. Its worth a try if you're up for it, but I wouldn't go through that much effort after only 4 unsuccessful TTC months.

I know a number of women who have PCOS that have benefited greatly from going gluten free.

If you pull out gluten and many grains from your diet, you will want to look at supplementing with magesium.

I really enjoyed reading this book when trying to determine how I wanted to eat when TTC: http://www.amazon.com/Deep-Nutrition-Your-Genes-Traditional/dp/0615228380

I also thought that this book was VERY interesting: http://www.amazon.com/Making-Babies-3-Month-Program-Fertility-ebook/dp/B002J05IPQ/
It has different types of fertility types and I really fit into the Tired type: http://www.makingbabiesprogram.com/questionnaire/

And it actually recommends I increase my grain consumption. To my shock, I have been able to raise my BBT a little bit and have started losing weight again. Kind of a trip.

I think everyone's body has different needs.

I've been reading a lot about gluten sensitivity lately and after struggling with infertility for a long time, I wish I would have tried given up gluten. I never thought that I had a sensitivity, but now I'm wondering. So many different bodily complaints can be a symptoms of a sensitivity and infertility is absolutely one of them. I don't think it's a magic cure all by any means (and have not tried it), but I definitely think it can help some people (and not because of an "addiction" to gluten).

I am skeptical that anyone knows the "secret code" to conceiving, so I'd probably not cut out gluten. I don't look at it as an addiction though, as some people do.

As long as she's not trying to also see you her wonderful gluten-free diet cookbook, she might know something we (or really, I) don't. Everyone has their theories of what impacts TTC and it seems that, similar to symptoms, Dr. Google can always produce someone that swears this made the difference.

With that said, I'm all for a cleaner life. If cutting gluten won't impact your life too much, why not give it a try?

So, I met with a new chiropractor for some intense chronic back pain from an old cheerleading injury. I've previously done chiro, but the last insurance didn't cover it so it's been a while. I've also done physical therapy and meds, but thats besides the point!

I told the doctor we have been trying to conceive for the past four months, and she said I'm addicted to gluten, and it could be causing us to not be able to conceive. It sounded a little hocus pocus to me. I do not have any gluten insensitivity that I know of. Caffeine yes! I get headaches when I don't have sofa and coffee. I have been exercising more, cutting back on coffee and coke, but was wondering would it be worth it to give gluten free a shot. Has anyone done this or been told to do this? And what's the difference between this and paleo??
